I'm not surprised, Buttler and BSJ . In fact it's pretty typical not to have been to the most touristic points of your city, area or country. I live in Buenos Aires and I've never been to Caminito, which apparently is a must for every foreign tourist setting foot on the city. Yep, I've still never made the mere 3-hour drive to Yosemite. I hadn't been to Disneyland for the first 17 years of my life, either, despite living in the same state as it the entire time.

Horacewimp - Really pleased to see Venice had some water back again when you visited, it's either had too much or not at all recently. The moody shots in the mist and in the evening (or early morning?) are gorgeous as are the colourful houses (is that Burano? I think we visited there too when we went and there were hordes of Japanese girls taking endless photos of each other there, blocking up the walkways) The whole place is like a painting, lucky you being able to get there and wallow in it and at Carnival time too. I've toyed with visiting Malaga in January as well, was there much going on? It looks great. Were those left over Christmas decorations? How nice to see oranges on the trees in what we consider to be winter. The beach is probably rammed in summer but you could enjoy it pretty much alone by the look of it. Bet you'd have had a shock if you'd been tempted to take a dip though The coloured houses are in Burano it was a very pleasant little island. We really enjoyed Malaga in January, as there is a train from the airport running along the coast we did three nights in Torremolinos and two nights in Malaga centre. There are some great deals to be had at the hotels, we were lucky with the weather it was 20 Deg C most days, started cold but warmed up by 10.30am and the sun disappeared around 6.00pm. Torre along the front was busy during the day but dead in the evening everyone seemed to stay put in the hotels who provided the normal pub singer entertainment. All the shops were open but not all the bars/restaurants. Malaga centre was busy night and day with all shops, bars and restaurants open all offering sales or deals, they were the Xmas decorations they had left up. We will probably return next Jan/Feb as long as the prices remain cheap.

Horacewimp: the snow-capped mountains on your first pic of the trip to Venice have to be the Alps, right?

Horacewimp: the snow-capped mountains on your first pic of the trip to Venice have to be the Alps, right? Correct, the ones on the way to Venice are the Alps, the ones on the way to Malaga the Pyrenees.

Those are some exciting and dramatic clouds, Helmut83 , and that's a very picturesque storm. I love how it contrasts with the green landscape. The piggies are and unexpected bonus and the horsey photos are worthy of any photography magazine as are the flamingos and also the plumerillos. The cathedral is very beautiful and that bridge is lovely. The dog under the Pablo Acosta sign is a stand out. It’s very you! Thank you, queenofthehours ! Glad you liked my photography efforts and pleased to have your feedback. Talking about picturesque, there's this friend of mine who has recently been to a very nice little town in Wales. I'm hoping maybe this friend wants to share a few pics with us and tell us a bit about the place... Maybe that friend might post some pics presently...

Last month I visited Llangollen in North Wales en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llangollen . Now, I know we don't know much about this strange and exotic country so I have included here a few pictures from my trip:

This is a view of the bridge, in the distance you can see snow on the mountains. The weather was extremely cold and the valley seemed to have it's own weather system. Within ten minutes one morning there was sunshine, fog, sleet, snow and rain before the sun came out again. A while later it snowed again before returning once more to sunshine with a blue sky.
The river you can see flowing under the bridge is the river Dee. You might also be able to see that it is quite a raging torrent. The noise was incredible, it was so loud you could hear it in a hotel room at the back of the building and everywhere in the town. It was like the white noise you get on a TV set. They have white water Slalom canoeing and kayaking on the river but at the time I went, which was during the storms, I doubt any canoeist would try their luck as the water was so fast flowing and deep that it looked deadly.

Here is another picture of the river looking towards the Llangollen Railway en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llangollen_Railway . Here you can ride a steam train but if railways aren't your thing you can visit the canal nearby and perhaps take a boat going to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct built by Thomas Telford in 1795 which rises 35m high. I didn't see the aqueduct but here's somebody else's picture -
There is also a castle en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castell_Dinas_Br%C3%A2n and the town holds Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in July en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llangollen_International_Musical_Eisteddfod .
Just out of town is Plas Newydd where the Ladies of Llangollen lived en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladies_of_Llangollen -

Of course while I was in Wales I had to buy some local produce and returned home armed with Bara Brith and Welsh cakes. As to ELO, of course they were involved! I heard them in the hotel bar - it was 'Livin' Thing' .

Lovely pics queenofthehours, I'm not surprised you could hear the river all over town it looks twice its normal size and speed. Seems to be covering what might normally be the cafe terrace and edging towards the building itself. Hope it avoided a flood.

Looks like a beautiful place, queenofthehours, is it considered touristic? The river looks flooded and out of control. On the Wikipedia site there's a picture of the very same place as your 2nd photo, only it had snowed in that one.

Sadly I didn't get to see the town in snow that pretty and you know all the best photos of landscapes are done by people with better cameras, better eyes and better luck than my rushed snaps taken with a c2010 digital camera. I believe it's considered very touristic and gets very busy in summer, the town relies a lot on tourism. Nobody seemed worried about the river but on a good day you could walk in the river and stand on the rocks or so I'm told.

Looks like black hair hadn't been invented then. All blondes.
No wonder it's touristic, it looks very pretty.

Hey, Horacewimp! Any idea of what's going on with the pictures? The pics I've uploaded on page 99 are no longer there. I wanted to upload a few others now on another thread but noticed the BBC code didn't seem to be working, so I came back to this thread to check how the old pics were doing and found they are no longer there.

I think it's the hosting site that's working like shit. When I tried to open it it would take ages to load.
