Unbelievable. Not a big fan, but Wham and George, solo, were "guilty pleasures" I liked hearing on the radio. He had a great voice.

Terrible news and what a shock even after all the other similar shocks this year. George was a genuine star compared with what generally passes for celebrity these days, he could write a fine tune and sing with style and confidence. Nobody else nailed a Queen song as well as Freddie Mercury except for him at the Mercury Tribute, for example. I hope his passing really was peaceful, RIP Mr Michael.

Real shock about George Michael, talented musician. What I loved about Wham! Was that their songs were feel good songs. I agree with Uno about George's cover of Somebody to Love at Freddie's tribute concert. My mom was saying she had a lot of respect for him singing that song, think she said it was nearly as good as Freddie's version and you know how no one's voice can compare to Freddie's! This clip from Comic Relief I think shows his brilliant sense of humour and it's got Macca and Ringo so added bonus really

Another shocking blow to the music world.
I was lucky enough to have been at the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert back in 1992 when George instantly converted my opinion of him from being 'the singer who used to be in Wham' to a wonderfully diverse and hugely talented vocalist, brave enough to take on one of Freddie Mercury's greatest vocal challenges - Somebody To Love.
RIP George Michael.

Bowie, Prince, George Michael....three of the biggest icons of pop music gone in the same year. That's some twisted BS.

So sad. Even though I wasn't the biggest GM fan this is still one of the hardest-hitting deaths this year. And yet another to go with Greg Lake of an artist who will be always remembered for their contribution to the festive season. From now on 'Last Christmas' will never be the same song .
Also, another sad loss at the very same time as George, the Red Army Choir and Dancers, over 60 of them lost in a plane crash. As a fan of all things Russian this saddens me very much as I love hearing their songs.
And their dancers are also as brilliant -

This is very tragic, queenofthehours. Enjoyed the folk dancing, specially the squatting.
