So it's only taken me 21 years to realise just how funny Monty Python is, it's because my parents never found it particularly funny that I never watched it particularly. Can anyone recommend any particular sketches I could watch? I have noticed that Michael Palin is very good looking and a very talented guy as are all of the Python members, the fact that Eric Idle is a Wolves fan and both Eric Idle and Michael Palin have some sort of connection with ELO (I read somewhere that they were responsible for something to do with the Traveling Wilburys). The fact that Eric Idle mentions the beloved Wolves and our stadium Molineux makes Eric Idle very appealing to me. So feel free in this thread to share your favourite moments from Monty Python

Just start watching all you can off YouTube. Too many golden moments. Over here PBS (Public Broadcasting System) played them around 11:00, or later, at night. Remember staying up to catch them. (Turn it down! Go to bed! No. ) THE LARCH. THE LARCH. THE LARCH. Is a stand out.

I think a good way to start is their first movie "and now for something completely different", that consists of some remakes of highlights from their first two seasons. When it comes to fave moments, I think there are just too many to mention...

It's true, there are just too many good bits to list. The Ministry of Silly Walks is a classic, as is Nudge, Nudge (starring Eric Idle), which gave the nation the catchphrase "Say no more!" (as quoted by Mik in ELO's Rockpalast interview. Nice to know Python got the ELO seal of approval).
But this sketch is possibly the silliest and funniest of all. It's also Michael Palin's favourite Python moment, apparently.
(Side note: My downstairs neighbour in Paris used to wear a pair of slippers shaped like fish. I couldn't resist borrowing them to re-enact this sketch with him. Heaven only knows what he now thinks of the British.)

Yes I have started watching some of the sketches online, can't understand at all why my parents never found any of it funny but never mind! Has anyone watched the programme How to Irritate People? It was done just before Monty Python, it includes Michael Palin, Graham Chapman, John Cleese and the wonderful Tim Brooke-Taylor who of course was in The Goodies later on, anyone else watched The Goodies? Tim was always my favourite! I will probably watch the films, I have watched bits of them, what's everyone's favourite Python movie?

For you, Wolfie, here's a round-up of The Goodies in action. And as a bonus, the music is played by the Royal Philharmonic, conducted by ELO's own Louis Clark.

Their excuse is that they were either working or out at the pub.
I have to say I'm a Palin fan because I've always enjoyed his travel programmes especially Around the World in 80 Days and because he's a Sheffield lad (Palin's diaries are worth reading and mention the Wilburys friarparksoulclub.tumblr.com/post/104169375559/george-in-michael-palins-diaries-1980-1988 ). But I guess that Idle is my favourite one for humour, I love Rutland Weekend TV and he was very close to George.
I can't pick out any Python moments but I do recommend seeing the Holy Grail movie, I studied it at college. It's the only film that has me falling out of my seat crying with tears of laughter. Especially at this scene, good ol' Dennis! -
Mind you, this scene is just as good (and even better in LEGO!) -

queenofthehours, I too like Michael Palin, not just because he is a good looking guy but he is very talented, he can play a range of characters as I've seen in some of the sketches I've watched. My grandad is also a fan of Michael Palin because of his travel programmes, I didn't know he was a Sheffield lad. I do like Eric Idle too because of his ties to Wolverhampton and his songwriting skills are amazing and who doesn't love the song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life? I do like all of the members for different reasons but Michael and Eric do stand out to me! I'm a fan of The Rutles too, shame Paul didn't see the funny side of it when it was such a compliment to their music and yes George was a friend of Eric's wasn't he in one of the Monty Python films and in a Rutles film too?

There's nothing unlikable about Michael! But the BBC once labelled him (along with Delia Smith) as "occasional sparkle but has limited appeal" www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1235525/BBC-stars-hit-secret-rankings-talent-league-table.html . I remember Michael actually being please by this and saying that "occasional sparkle" was something he was happy to have .
Michael seems the best solid actor while Terry J seems to be the best actor in terms of "character", he can do anything. Idle seemed to be the funniest writer and Graham, to me, was rather like the "straight man" as he seemed to take on the major roles in the films. Terry G was the artistic one, I think he felt more comfortable behind the camera while I think John wasn't particularly Pythony at all as he was the same before Python as after it when he did Fawlty Towers .
It think I read that Paul changed his mind about being annoyed at the Rutles because Linda liked the film. It must have been hard for him because Macca's naturally so serious and sensitive about his art while George is serious too but being Piscean can also be silly and light-hearted at the same time.
George appears in Life of Brian -
And he's in All You Need is Cash playing a reporter interviewing Michael Palin's Eric Manchester (clearly based on Derek Taylor) -
Did you see Ron Wood? I think a lot of that clip was actually based on real events. The Hell's Angels at Apple were told to leave by George but Big Valerie didn't knock him out!

Poor Michael falling in the river due to being slapped by a large fish haha
