...just round the corner from the yard where i worked lived Harry H Corbett, from Steptoe and Son, and he would occasionally pop in to pick stuff up...very nice bloke, always amusing and friendly....
going way down to the bottom of the barrel now...when i was quite young and was dragged shopping by my mum and dad they used to let me go off to the music shop to peruse records, yes...records...45's....one evening Peters and Lee were signing autographs....(go google them)...
who would i like to meet....one woman i would go to the ends of the earth for...and my wife does know this....joan jett...!

Ooo, classy selection there, thewordsofaaron. I'm glad to hear Harry H was a cheery soul, I had the impression he was one of those miserable comics in private, like Tony Hancock. Welcome to the show too As for lightyearsahead - TISWAS!!! Best programme ever, it simply wouldn't be made today. I was thinking about it when all this ice bucket challenge thing started, remember all the nellies in the cage getting thoroughly drenched? Chris Tarrant had a rare skill with a bucket of water. Sigh. My lost youth.

My uncle was great friends with Syl Ritter, who is also known to a lot of people as the pro wrestler The Junkyard Dog. He was a huge star in the South, during the early 80's before moving to the WWF(now WWE) in 1984, where he became a national star. He was a sweet guy, although he had some personal demons that tormented him during his career.
Luckily, he overcame those.Unfortunately he was killed in a car accident while driving home from his daughter's high school graduation ceremony in 1998.

I waited outside The Odeon in Birmingham one Sunday to get the autographs of Ultravox, I managed to get them all have three albums/singles signed by all members. Also spotted Hazel O'Connor as she was dating Midge Ure at the time. While we were waiting for Ultravox who came walking along New Street in Birmingham but Phil Oakey and the two girls Susan and Joanne from The Human League, they had been filming at the TV studios, so I got their autographs as well I Also met Ultravox backstage at the Brighton Centre on the monument tour. They all signed my programme .Billy's ears must have been ringing cos he signed "to Mick (my name's Nick)"nice guy! Billy Currie". They Did have some gorgeous girls with them but I was starstruck and to tongue tied to chat to any of them. I wonder where that programme's gone?

in the early 90's, before her big role in Eastenders, Barbara Windsor was doing a book signing in a shopping mall in Barking Essex. being the big Carry On Film fan's that me and my family are, we went to get a copy and have her sign a copy. i was 12 years old at the time and i am waffling away to her and i thought for years that she was a miserable cow lol. but then i realized when i read her book years later that had details of her affairs, i understood she was probably worried that a 12 year old fan of hers should not be reading about her explicit private life lol. but what really disappointed me was that Windsor Davies was there doing a book signing 2 weeks previous and i didn't know about it.
about 10 years ago, me and my sister were at HMV somewhere in London to get a Buffy The Vampire Slayer DVD set signed by Alyson Hannigan. she was lovely but by the time we got in, she was just shaking hands cos the hours of signing wore her out or something. but i think i freaked her out a bit. she shook me hand with both hands and said 'Thank You So Much!'. i guess she was overwhelmed by the hundreds of fans who came to see her. but i must of looked puzzled when she said that to me lol. she probably thought 'Does he even know who i am?'
about a year after that a friend of mine invited me to see a band he likes called Shed Seven. it was at the Barfly in London. i was aware of them but thats about it. they were DJ'ing and socializing and i spoke to one of the members and that was pretty cool. i said to one of the members 'i'll be honest, i do know of your band but i have yet to know your stuff, but as soon as i can, i am going to buy all your albums!'. he nodded and said Thanks! i never did lol
the best one was when me and some friends went to see Bottom Live in London. after the show one of my friends said lets go round to the exit and get to meet them. so we went to the back of the theatre and patiently waiting. the door opens and Roger Taylor of Queen walks out with security. i was stunned by that lol. the same friend said 'Go get his autograph!' i couldn't. he's just come to see the show. wheres Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson will be probably expecting fans to show up. anyway, several minutes later, Ade walks out, he don't really want to know or sign anything. i guess they take it in turns or something. i can't really see him being an ass about having time for fans. but then Rik walked out and stuck around, shaking our hands, signing autographs and being the Rik you see on TV. he was really nice and it's really heartbreaking that he's no longer with us. my sister wasn't there, so she was upset. so i gave her my autograph.
going around London so many times over the years with friends, they always seem to spot celebs and i usually don't. so i won't include Ricky Gervais apparently walking past me in Denmark Street cos i didn't know until a friend pointed it out. lol

I met Crosby, Stills and Nash in Cork airport and asked their "roadie" who turned put to be Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top to get their autographs for me! Also and honest to God no BS.... I was a manager of a GAME outlet that was frequented by that annoying nonce Ronan Keating and whilst he was singing "telephone line" I asked him to "Please stop, don't do that to me"! I also roadied for Andy Powell from Wishbone ash for a weekend. Sounds like a pile of bull but it's the truth!

I met Avril Lavigne at the height of her popularity, before she married that Nickelback douche. What a weird fragile thing she was.

I've met - A Flock of Seagulls (in their hey-day 1982-83); Belinda Carlisle (in a bar); Ric Ocasek (walking down the street in Boston in 1981); John Wetton; Geoff Downes; John Payne; Steve Howe; Carl Palmer; Alan White; Chris Squire; Keith Emerson; Greg Lake; Don Henley; Gary Puckett; Kip Winger; Jordan Rudess; Bill Bruford; Pat Masstelotto and the guys in Marillion (including Fish.)
I had a friend who used to run a music magazine and she got me into a lot of shows which is how I met Marillion, YES and ELP.
I also met Dale Earnhardt Jr. at a book signing. I did not meet in person but got to interview Kyle Busch via email (before he got going in NASCAR) and Kurt Busch via email when I wrote for an online NASCAR magazine which has since gone defunct.
The two people I want to meet the most are-Jeff Lynne and Joe Walsh.

I do a bit of freelance journalism, so I've interviewed a few well-known people. Most of them being comedians, for some reason! Milton Jones, the king of the one-liners, is great. He's on Mock The Week sometimes - he's the one with the mad hair and deafening shirts. I used to live near Milton, so after we'd done the interview, I used to bump into him in the supermarket sometimes. He would always stop to chat and ask about what I was doing, rather than talking about his career. Rob Brydon (Welsh comedian) was very nice, and better-looking in real life. Rhod Gilbert (another Welsh comedian) was also really nice and put me on the guest list for his next show at the Comedy Store in London. Most interviewees don't keep in touch, once you've written your story. But with Mitch Benn (musical comedian, on Radio 4's The Now Show), it was different. He came to lunch for the interview, stayed four hours (and paid for my lunch). While he was answering a question, my tape ran out, so Mitch unwrapped a new tape for me and changed it, while still answering my questions, so I could keep writing. After that meeting, Mitch regularly let me and my friend into his gigs for free. This was over ten years ago and we're still on friendly terms. Also interviewed Gyles Brandreth about his Oscar Wilde detective novels. He was very nice and not half as over-the-top as he appears, on telly. He was amazed that I remembered his TV quiz for kids, Puzzle Party, which he hosted before he went into politics. I was a bit wary of meeting the Australian writer Kathy Lette, as I'd been told by a male friend "She could flirt with a radiator". I even wondered briefly if I should take a radiator along to the interview. But she was great. We sat in her garden and scoffed the Welsh cakes that I'd brought her. Kathy said it was the first time a "journo" had ever brought her a present. (My interviewing technique that never fails - give 'em a bit of cake and they'll tell you anything.) She signed one of her books for me and we kept in touch by e-mail for a while. When Rich Hall (American comedian, gravelly voice) appeared at my local comedy club, I took him a Welsh-language magazine which featured a story I'd written about him. He rasped at me "What is this?" in his scary voice, but I held my nerve and explained what I'd done (and showed him the translation). To my astonishment, he said, "Aw, thank you!" and gave me a hug. I nearly fell over. Later on, when he was on stage, he incorporated a joke about "a lovely Welsh lady" into his act. The club manager gave me a very knowing look. When I got the chance to meet Raymond Blanc (French chef), I thought, great, here's my chance to get the expert's opinion on my Welsh cakes. Raymond sampled one, promptly shook his head and said "Non, you must use butter, not margarine. And powdered milk...eet weell bring out the flavour." My self-esteem deflated quicker than a souffle on Masterchef. To make matters worse, the next day, Raymond's PR lady e-mailed me to say "Raymond was delighted with your biscuits..." BISCUITS?? They must have been rock-hard! But my Welsh cakes had their happy ending when David Walliams & Matt Lucas from Little Britain were doing an audiobook signing up in London. They were dressed as their characters Lou and Andy. I stood in the queue with everyone else, and when my turn came, handed them both a container of Welsh cakes, while asking a couple of quick questions. Unknown to me, a photographer from Heat Magazine was present - so it was a surprise when, a few days later, the next issue of Heat featured David, Matt and my Welsh cakes on the front cover.
