I was only listening to Big Wheels myself earlier today when it popped up on shuffle, howled along to it and agreed with myself what a fab song it is. The vocals are very slightly soppy but nowhere near as sickly as MB *scoots back under chair*

Even my young adolescent son knows that when he's "trapped in the car" with me and trying not to pay attention to me or the music, that if OOTB is on and we get to "#11" (as he calls it) that Mom is going to sing her heart out. He once said that liking a song that much can't be healthy. I can't wait until he falls in love for the first time!!!

It might be a good idea to steer him away from the dreaded Midnight Poo when he falls in love. It's exactly the sort of drivel heartfelt poetry that appeals to lovestruck teens

Haha it's not drivel! I mean I'm not a teen and it appeals to me, maybe it's just I'm susceptible to Jeff's dreamy voice

I'll probably be more concerned about what kind of person the object of his affections turns out to be!

Well for a start he can obviously only ever fall for an ELO fan, or else you can't have them in the house *stern face*

I just listened to "The Battle of Marston Moor" for the first time. What in heaven's name was that?? Yes, it grates, and it saws, and it sounds like it's grinding something in the blender!! Truly an original!

Truly an original! I think you'd better ask Roy what was going through his mind when he wrote that song! Every time it comes on my iPod, it gets skipped, sorry Roy! Bev refused to play on it because he thought it was so crap hahaha

I like Roy's over-acted opening speech though, it's the best part of it. Then I skip

I have another song that grates: "Starlight." I was listening to OOTB in the car today and was reminded why I really dislike this song, and almost always skip it. ( I love most of the album, though.) I think it's because I don't really like the way Jeff sings it (more about that later), but more importantly, I hate hearing a man call a grown woman "little girl," even in an affectionate way. Ick! So demeaning! Men don't want to be called "little boy!"
I'm OK with all of the bitterness and bile directed at the women in "Evil Woman," "Four Little Diamonds" and "Endless Lies," for example, (maybe because it's just one "bad woman" in each case?), but this "little girl" thing really gets under my skin (IMO, no grown woman should be called "little girl").
I know, it's just a song- "Lighten up, eloneen!" I forgive Jeff and ELO....but it still grates, and I will still skip it!
Peace Out to the Men and Women of Horace Wimp's ELO Fan Forum!
