I'm going to see Procol Harum at the London Palladium next week!
They are going to perform the whole of their In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra 1971 album live with a full orchestra and chorus. Basically this is what we wish Jeff would do - recreate one of his best LPs live for us. But you could say that he already has because I'm sure most concerts on this current tour are recreations of one of his best live LPs - Wembley or Bust!
Anyway, it would be nice to see Jeff influenced enough by Procol to go out with an orchestra and record some of his best songs with them and then release it as an album.
If you want to hear the full Procol Harum live LP it's here -

going to see a band called Bird Streets tomorrow night (early birthday celebration) they (mainly meaning John Brodeur) worked with Jason Falkner on their latest (same guy who worked with Thomas Walsh on the last Pugwash album and the same guy who was in Jellyfish back in the '90s)
here's a sample - lush power pop that I think might even get a smile out of Jeff
betting on the sun - has a great lyric "I remember when we were tighter than Steely Dan"

You can hear echoes of both Jellyfish and Pugwash there, and a jangly Byrds sound (wonder if this is partly the inspiration for their name?) Sounds like the gig will be a good 'un orioles70

Unomusette - agree on the jangly Byrds-like sound. Bird Streets say they are aiming for a sunnier sound than on last record. New name, new sound, new producer. Byrds were from Los Angeles. It fits.
Bird Streets put on a fun performance on a windy, chilly evening. 4 piece with the lead guitarist producing some fuzzy brain tingling tones.
Turns out that the band name is inspired by a tony LA neighborhood north of Hollywood (the streets have names like Blue Jay Way). The album was written and produced nearby. Coincidentally, a part of Albany, NY (where the song writer grew up) also have bird street names.

www.wolftrap.org/tickets/calendar/performance/1819barns/0406show19.aspxthis looks like it will be an entertaining show - 40 different musicians all coming together for an XTC tribute Parthenon Huxley from The Orchestra is participating. Thomas Walsh is a huge XTC fan, but I doubt they'd be able to bring him all the way over to the DC area unless there was some sort of scheduling miracle. one of my favorite XTC songs

Just back from seeing The ELO Experience, and once again they were fantastic, they performed all the usual songs, plus a few surprises, including Xanadu and Latitude 88 North.

going to an event called Brew at the Zoo over the Memorial Day weekend, 3 bands & 50 beers plus a ticket to the Zoo and the weather forecast for Saturday is good
Matt Hutchison is a local favorite and will kick things off. His former band was called "Fools and Horses" which I only recently learned was a British comedy show. Makes sense, because Matt lived in England for a number of years as a kid.
