Why was the cover changed on the latest CD re-issue?

Might answer your question:
www.amazon.com/Third-Day-Electric-Light-Orchestra/dp/B003W77SBW
US Amazon. Taken from reviewer Wayne Klein (4 down): As with the previous releases we get both brief contemporary humorous comments from Lynne ("for some people this album is a little obscure...for others more obscure")and comments from the time the album was released. There's also the usual photos and we get the original UK album cover finally restored to its rightful place (replacing Richard Avedon's bellybutton photo which is included on the inside cover), memorabilia photos and complete credits for the CD. A top notch remaster/re-release "On the Third Day" was worth the wait.
I think the belly buttons are cooler.

Why was the cover changed on the latest CD re-issue? Because it's Jeff Lynne's ELO. I'm being slightly sarcastic. The other cover is better, and the one we are all familiar with, surely?

The black one with Jeff on the front was the original UK cover, right? And the white one with the belly button photo was the US version?
Wasn't the story that Richard Avedon thought that ELO was a really dull bunch of lads, so he came up with the belly button idea to at least get something crazy in the picture?
