Telephone Line… "blue days & black nights" part I love singing along to 'Telephone Line' at concerts, I love it more live than on CD, and every time it gets to that line I get a little teary-eyed for some reason.

The outro of Turn To Stone which was the very first song of ELO I ever heard. The cracked moog sticking out of key surging high above with strings blew me away. I wondered what this instrument is, bass guitar through distortion? Their excess~big fillin of toms on ballads, eccentric strings' line, rich chorus~ knocked me dead.

In no order—just off the top of my head here: RNRHOF performance of WMGGW “I don’t know whyyyy” The strings gliss up the scale right before “blue days, black nights” “What can you do when your dream world is gone and your friends and lovers too” 49 seconds into Don’t Say Goodbye “so hold me close, never let me go” Every time Jeff “oohs” (most notably on Rain is Falling) The intro and entirety of Tightrope The guitar solos in Showdown & Mr Blue Sky Falsetto in Lift Me Up the second to last time he says “rivers deep and wide” near the end More falsetto and just Idle Race songs in general—Please No More Sad Songs, Follow Me Follow, Going Home, Girl at the Window, A Better Life, etc The little falsetto echoes & harmonies in Sweet is the Night Jeff’s falsetto and voice in general And of course, the way Jeff bends that pitch & the inflection in Songbird, right at “and she was home” 54 seconds in...pure beauty, gets me every time.
This is already a lot but I know there’s way, way more...it’s been said before but I’ll say it again, musical genius!!

nobodyschild "Falsetto in Lift Me Up the second to last time he says “rivers deep and wide” near the end" Lift Me Up has to be in my top 10.

All of the above plus the little echo on the word "blows" from Just for Love on Zoom which then goes into a little instrumental break. Just beautiful "Out in all the mysteries and distant new tomorrows There goes another one don't know which way the wind blows"

The last 28 seconds or so of "Its Over" is so hauntingly beautiful. It makes a good song that may of had just an ordinary ending into something spectacular. I remember thinking after a radio DJ played it when ELO broke up in '86, don't be sad 'cause Jeff isn't done.

Old post, I know... but seeing it reminded me that the other day I noticed the “blue days, black nights” part isn’t on the lyrics sheet! Thought that was weird cos it’s definitely a special moment in the song for me too and I always considered it an important line, not just backing vocals.
