Yeah, agreed, great post.
- The final minute of "On the run" (the "gotta run, gotta go, gotta run around" part) is glorious. If I were Jeff I would have made a whole song with that.
- The guitar solos of "Ordinary dream", "Easy money" and "Birmingham blues".
- The final part of "Blown away" (after the last chorus) feels like floating in heaven.
- The part of "Poor boy" when he goes "sweet maid Marion, don't you do me no wrong...".

Oh YES, the Blown Away thing! It's SO...Jeffy. Lots of moments like that on Armchair Theatre, hope there's more to come on the next solo album he's been hinting at.

In Strange Magic I love how Jeff sings "Oh, I'm never gonna be the same again" -- especially his inflection on the word "again" -- honestly I could just fixate on the two seconds it takes him to sing that word -- uhhhg! so beautiful.
In Midnight Blue -- the raw, strummy electric guitar that peaks through all the strings etc. between the lyrics "loving you" and "i'm feeling midnight blue"
In Summer and Lightning -- I call it the choo-choo train part. I've heard people say it sounds like Steve Miller's The Joker. All that cool, chugging music, baseline and echoing "ohhs" and "owws". Helmut - AM I RIGHT?
In Shine A Little Love -- I love the call and response: Can you understand. (Yes I understand) Can you feel it's right. (I know it is) Will you be the same. (I'll do it all again). and then the staccato oo aa oo aa oo aa oo aa - ooooo! that follows changes to ooaaooaaooaaooaa - ooooo! the second time.

In Midnight Blue -- the raw, strummy electric guitar that peaks through all the strings etc. between the lyrics "loving you" and "i'm feeling midnight blue" Yeeeesssss, totally! I always pay attention to that guitar. It's just a little arrangement, but adds a lot to that part of the song. +1 for that comment. In Summer and Lightning -- I call it the choo-choo train part. I've heard people say it sounds like Steve Miller's The Joker. All that cool, chugging music, baseline and echoing "ohhs" and "owws". Helmut - AM I RIGHT? Absolutely right. It's brilliant, but to be fair, which bit of that song isn't? Talking about "Summer and Lightning", look what a coincidence: I downloaded "Audacity", a free recording software. On Friday I thought "I'll try recording a song". Which song? It had to be my absolute favourite. So I grabbed some instruments I have and recorded kind of a home demo, improvising over most of the song, and on that part you are talking about, I recorded the riff of Steve Miller's "The Joker", not because I had previously thought about it, but because when that part came it just came out like that almost without thinking, because it fitted perfectly. I'm going to see if I add a few congas to that demo and then I'll share it with you.

I listen for it everytime

Back again to nominate the intro going into Tightrope on ANWR. When I first heard this, in the dark over enormous headphones, it was massively thrilling.
Since then I've heard the intro used with clouds of dry ice to usher all sorts of cheesey metal bands onstage, but it still doesn't spoil the original for me.

Of course the epic, haunting string and keyboard laden outro of "Shangri-La" is similar. I will retuuuuurrrrrrrrrrn...
... and while Discovery tracks are still being mentioned: I've always appreciated the prominent lead and rhythm guitar work in "Shine a Little Love", which make the song more than what one would consider average Disco of the period.
Anyhow, I'll have to sit down and actually listen to and focus on ELO material for the first time in a long while to contribute any more "extra special things" or just "special things" to the thread.

concerto for a rainy day.....the whole thing just fits and thats amazing...but my favourite moment has to be at the beginning of standing in the rain when jeff sings 'rain..rain rain rain' is echoed...then the orchestra crashes in...its the bit that sums up the whole of the electric meets orchestra moment that jeff and roy wanted to achieve....

Richard Tandys funky clavinet solo on mission, the tennis ball dropping at the start of Fire on high, the error left in by Jeff at the start of Rockaria by the opera singer......

I'd like to bump this thread by saying Jeff singing "Here it comes again" on Summer and Lightning is by far the most powerful ELO moment for me ever. It's been a consistent one too, ever since I first heard the song. Both harmonies have such passion and energy. Perfection.

Great topic, great moments brought up by everyone else. Here’s a few of mine:
Bev’s little drum riff during the synthesizer breaks in Confusion (and the faces he makes while playing it)
The bass guitar on Shine a Little Love, and also how “E-L-O” was slipped into the backing vocals at the end
The falsetto section in Midnight Blue
The arpeggio-ish violin phrases during the chorus of Telephone Line
But hands down, my favorite Jeff moment is from the RNRHOF performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps... “I don’t know whyyyy-y-y-yyy...” ...Gives me chills every time.

The chord progression through the middle bit of "Take Me on and On" where we are leaving the solar system and launching into truly unknown territory. That is a perfect piece of music, that is.
