This is probably old news since this show has been around a while, but Mr. Bluebird and I just started watching Community. In one of the early episodes, one of the main characters joins the debate team (the character is also named Jeff, coincidentally). Anyway, he is arguing for the debate that man is inherently evil, while his opponent argues the opposite. At one point, he leads the auditorium in a chorus of "Evil Woman," complete with sung guitar parts, in an attempt to prove his point. We were cracking up!

Nov 1 - the Big Day I was getting a little frustrated today waiting on my copy of FOON to arrive. Finally gave up and went to the gym and then the beer store. First step inside and a lovely lass was offering up tastes of Terrapin Ale and as I give it a sip, ELO starts playing (Hold on Tight). Well I couldn't not buy some, could I? And when I got home, there was my package. Settled in for a listen and a bottle of "Hopsecutioner". You'd like it Horacewimp

Listened to Desert Island Discs this morning on BBC Radio 4. (On this programme, each week, a guest is asked to choose which eight records they would take with them if they were cast away on a desert island.)
Today's guest was the television writer Russell T. Davies (he's from South Wales). One of his choices was an ELO song that was played at his wedding: Mr Blue Sky!

Mr. Bluebird and I were watching the latest episode of Bob's Burgers tonight. The show does a lot of puns with stuff in the background, like store names, their burgers of the day, etc. In this episode, the characters were in a mall, and one of the stores was called "It's a Linen Thing." I wonder what that could be in reference to?

On NPR's site they have a Tiny Desk Concert video. Scroll down to the end. Sesame Street is featured. Lookie there! What is that in the background? There are close ups, if you care to see, at 2:32 and 11:23. www.npr.org/

Caught this one ages ago now, but tedblight 's post in the ELO cover songs thread just reminded me of it... I'm sure anyone who's watched the video for When We Was Fab knows that Jeff can be seen playing violin. But if, like me, your ELO fanaticism has given you a keen eye for spotting a Jeff, you can also find him in the procession of people near the end of the video!

Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 70's from November 13th, 1976, was on this past weekend, let's get it started right here, #40, here's an orchestra that's doing quite well for itself, three hit songs so far this year, Evil Woman, Strange Magic and their latest debuts this week at #40, it's Livin' Thing, from England, The Electric Light Orchestra...

Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 70's from November 17th, 1979, is on this weekend... This is Casey Kasem on American Top 40 in Hollywood, well now, I have the hit by the group who perform on the most expensive stage set in the history of rock, a sixty foot wide spaceship that cost them more than three hundred thousand dollars, picture this if you will, you're sitting in a concert hall, the lights are out, and suddenly there's a sound of space music starting softly, but building louder and louder into an exciting crescendo, and as you look toward the, dimly lit stage, you can just barely make out something that looks like a space vehicle, the top of it begins to rise, and inside being lifted up on a huge platform, is the group you came to see, the lights on the bottom and the top of the spaceship, go on, the lasers begin to shoot out in all directions from the ship, lighting up the entire hall, fire is shooting from the back of the ship, and a rear screen projector is filled with laser lights, spelling out messages to the crowd, and this is how the Electric Light Orchestra begins their concert, the cost, three hundred thousand dollars just to build the set, the most expensive set for a rock group, we know of, and now, here is ELO, at #37 in the countdown, The Electric Light Orchestra debut with, Confusion...

Saw the Toy Story preview that uses Livin' Thing when I went to see a movie the other day.
Oh, and when I was browsing in the record store this weekend, glancing over an album's sleeve, a familiar name caught my eye and I had to laugh... I learned that Don Arden managed Air Supply!

In our office. Just begun working on an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond". Which stars one Brad Garrett - best known (well, to us lot anyway) for appearing on the Discovery album cover! It's little moments like this that brighten the working day. Speaking about Everbody Loves Raymond, Brad Garrett, the 40th Anniversary of Discovery and "Confusion"... In one of his earliest jobs, comedian/actor Brad Garrett, dressed in Middle Eastern clothes and turban, appears on the back cover as the menacing palace guard who is drawing his scimitar. The model seen on the cover of the Discovery album is the actor/comedian Brad Garrett, well before he became famous as an actor (famous for his role in the Everybody Loves Raymond series). Brad himself confirmed this via a Twitter post, although he did not confirm which picture(s) were of him. Jim Shea was the photographer and confirmed that it is Brad on the album's back cover, standing menacingly in a doorway holding a sword. An alternate shot was also used for the Confusion single advertisement. It is not Brad on the album's front cover, nor on the inside cover holding the ELO spaceship treasure and running across the desert. Brad would have been about 19 at the time the images were shot and it was done well before Brad's comedy and acting career. Just listened to the Popmaster quiz on BBC Radio 2. One of today's questions: "What was the supergroup formed by Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne..." etc.
The contestant got the question right, and Jeff got second billing instead of being tagged on at the end. A two thumbs up moment. *nods*
