Listening to my local classic rock station in the car today, and between songs they were announcing the upcoming concerts in the area... Foreigner “and Jeff Lynne’s ELO, June 22” ! I will admit I let out an excited gasp/squeak at hearing it mentioned and knowing that I would be there! And then about an hour later, the same station played “Evil Woman”... the first time I can recall hearing an ELO song besides “Don’t Bring Me Down” on the radio, and I unashamedly blasted it the whole time.

I hope so anyways.

In the past week, at random times, I've heard "Evil Woman ," "Don't Bring Me Down," and "Turn to Stone" on the oldies station. Not bad!

Well, this doesn't really count, (or does it?) because I put on the OOTB CD in the car while I was driving home from a brief vacation. When MBS came on, I said to my 86 year old mother "This is a perfect song for today." She listened a bit, looked out and said "Wow! You're right-- not a cloud in sight, not a single one, and the sun is shining!" I got her to pay attention to ELO lyrics, which she often just ignores...

Driving around here and there today, I heard "Don't Bring Me Down" and "Livin' Thing" within about 90 minutes on the local oldies station. On our way to the movies last night, we heard "Turn to Stone" on that same station. Hubby has listened to that station longer than I have, and he says that they typically have ELO songs in pretty heavy rotation, so he's not surprised. Works for me!

On Pointless this evening, one of the rounds required the contestants to identify various bands through their synonyms. One of the synonyms was "Galvanised Gleaming Ensemble". Have to admit I would have struggled with that one had they not also, helpfully , mentioned that one of their hits was Mr Blue Sky! BTW, it was the top scorer with 32.

The fantasy TV show Game Of Thrones has just returned for its final season.
Fans of the show will know the character Hodor, who is only able to say his own name.
I just came across this most imaginative tribute, on YouTube. Enjoy!

I'll be there too. Did I already invite you to the pre-concert party? We haven't picked a venue because we don't know how many are coming, so RSVP to Pam@pamvanallen.com as soon as you know!

Today in W H Smith a small child must have been pestering his mother in the queue going "mum! mum! mum!" because she suddenly turned to him and said - "I'm changing my name. To Jeff".

Watching University Challenge (highbrow quiz show) on BBC2 at the moment. They just played a snatch of Mr Blue Sky!
The question was about identifying a country's flag from three pieces of music that all contained colours in their name. No one got the answer right - in this case it was Armenia (red, blue and orange, with "blue" the second colour).
Sadly, Birmingham City University aren't taking part tonight - they'd have got it.

ELO concertgoer the Duke of Gloucester just got a mention on Pointless (the BBC quiz). You had to identify a member of the Royal family from a short clue. His clue was "Royal who trained as an architect and was appointed a Knight of the Garter in 1997."
Never mind Knight of the Garter, if they'd said "Royal who swayed along to 'Night In The City' in 1978", I'd have 'ad 'im.
