Save me looking back through this ever growing thread, has 'The Hoosiers, Goodbye Mr.A' been mentioned ? Always sounded much like a 'Mr Blue Sky ' re-do to me.

Don't know how I forgot this one from Ben Folds too - it screams Jeff Lynne This is obviously influenced by The Move circa Jeff Lynne years The New Pornos Carl Newman is a professed Jeff Lynne fan, so the similarities don't surprise me. And Not The Same by Ben Folds has some Lynne solo influences, for sure.

Sam Smith, Im not the only one, sounds very ELO to me on those string/synth bits....but then, i guess that may be rather generalistic and could be applied to loads of groups or people....ahhhhh...... How prophetic! (Profit-ic?) (in light of the recent Stay with Me and I Won't Back Down awkwardness.)

Man I had no idea there were sooo many bands that have songs that sound so much like ELO! I had not heard of most of these but so far it's a very cool listen. This may be too obvious, but what about Kelly's album? His lyrics had a totally different style, at least, but that's about all that distinguished it from an ELO album, other that his vocals, sort of. I did appreciate his heartfelt lyrics, and having seemingly everyone from the ELO crew at your disposal would make it very tempting to record an album with that particular sound. Vocally , he really put his heart into it, and kudos for that. I bought the album (used) and if I didn't already know the ELO sound, I would have enjoyed it a lot more I'm sure. Gotta love him tho', RIP.

So recently, I decided to make a playlist of music I like that has a distinct ELO/Jeff Lynne influence to it. I made this Spotify playlist, (Not) ELO Playlist!, which people can listen and also add to if they would like. From this current playlist, I would highly recommend these bands to anybody: Pugwash, Secret Powers, The Nines.I would also recommend the following artists to certain people... Bryan Scary (The Shredding Tears) is crazy-talented, and is known for making ambitious concept albums inspired by classic rock bands such as ELO, ELP, Queen, and Pink Floyd - yet somehow making a sound completely his own. He also frequently releases short EPs under a side project band, Evil Arrows. His music is certainly not for everybody, but he is no doubt a very talented musician with a diverse influence pool. "Daffy's Elixir" is a brilliant piece of work, IMO. The Duckworth Lewis Method is a side project of musicians Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) and Thomas Walsh (Pugwash). All their songs and albums are based around the sport of Cricket, and have a sound that combines the best of ELO and Monty Python. It's all very silly, but it's well-written music if you can get past the idea that there is an entire band dedicated to a single sport. Bubble Gum Orchestra is a blatant spinoff project that some musician created out of his sheer love for Jeff Lynne/ELO. A lot of his music is pretty cheesy and could easily be compared to a bad fanfic. However, he has consistently gotten better with each album released. Unfortunately, only one of the earliest albums is on Spotify. The latest release, "Beyond Time" is actually very good. He makes an album per year too, which is pretty cool.

That whole album is great. (Also, I hope you saw the link in the text. Perhaps I didn't make it obvious enough...)

Enuff Z 'Nuff were marketed as a "hair metal" band when they debuted in the late 80's, to fit in with bands like Skid Row, Poison, etc...but, eventually, they embraced their more Beatlesque roots and made a few albums of chewy pop tunes.
A few of their songs have some distinct ELO/Lynne flavor to them. Below are a couple of examples.

Very recent addition to this thread: Steve Hackett's (ex-Genesis) latest album Wolflight features the song The Wheel's Turning.
Some of these tricks (harmonies etc.) should be patented by Jeff...
