Bringing Bryan Scary back into this to say that his new album, Birds, is the greatest thing I've heard all year. I enjoyed FOON, but if you miss the complex instrumental arrangements of past ELO, I think you'll enjoy this

I've just been looking through this thread from start to finish and many of the songs I might have thought of have been mentioned already but here is one that hasn't come up yet. The sweeping string arrangement is very ELO-ish.

The sweeping string arrangement is very ELO-ish. Guillemots def have an ELO vibe. Fyfe Dangerfield is one of the songwriters and the lead singer - his song She Needs Me was mentioned early in the thread

Yes,'She Needs Me' sounds even more like ELO. If Fyfe Dangerfield wore sunglasses,he would look like Jeff as well.

Oh my Gosh. I love this Thread. I just registered myself yesterday to add something to this thread especially, because he was not mentioned here. Linus of Hollywood gives me the same feeling as Jeff Lynne and ELO. I wanted to share this so much with you, because you will love him. He already did 6 Albums by the way!
Try it!
Do you agree?

Check out Kai Danzberg by the way. He doesn´t sound so much as Jeff Lynne, but his music gives me the same warmth in some songs like this: Do you also agree?

I don't listen to much new music but I do sometimes watch a video channel in Canada called Stingray Loud. It plays anything that might fall under the rock umbrella new or old. They have a weekly top 15 for new stuff and the current number 1 is a song called Die To Live by a band called Volbeat. Don't know a lot about them but this song reminds me of the style Jeff uses when he cranks out a '50s or '60s style rocker. Think Hold on Tight, Rock n Roll is King, Got My Mind Set on You style... Boogie woogie piano, total feel good stuff! Big sax solo, maybe some Wizzard style mega wall of sound. A fun tune, brisk pace with a huge hook. Volbeat already had a prior release from this current album that was called Last Day Under The Sun (?) which I also liked... I read a review of the new album that said they have 'sold out'....

The vocal harmonies and piano arrangement of You Get What You Give by New Radicals really remind me of ELO.

Also, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned The Apples In Stereo and The New Pornographers, both bands who are heavily indebted to ELO. The Apples In Stereo even released an album practically dedicated to ELO in 2010 called "Travellers in Space and Time."

I can remember this song back in 98. Thought it was a great song, played it a lot. Never put the ELO connection to it. But thanks for posting, great to hear it again. Shame they had such a short career. Never heard much else from them.

The vocal harmonies and piano arrangement of You Get What You Give by New Radicals really remind me of ELO. Oh I remember this! I still have my cassette single. I never really thought of it as very ELO-sounding but it's definitely in the ELO spirit.
