Helmut83 I'm so sorry to hear about your Chula. I know you gave her a wonderful, happy life which is all that any of us (human or animal) can hope for. But it's very hard losing a beloved pet. Sincere sympathy and cyber hugs from me to you.

Sad news indeed, Helmut83 . I'm sure Chula appreciated all the affection you've given her throughout the years, and she'll always be in your heart.

Thanks a lot to all of you for your kinds and comforting words, Horacewimp, eloneen, vlogdance, BSJ, BIuebird, elophile and Grroosss . Regarding animals this forum is a wonderful place, with so many animals lovers that can understand your feelings and won't play them down for being "just animals". If you look at the very first post on this thread, I opened it back in 2014 with a post about Chula (featuring a photo that no longer shows because the hosting site has closed) so I felt her chapter needed to be closed here too. Vlog: yes, Sánchez still visit and knocks on the kitchen window most every day. I'm sure he'll miss Chula too, they are exactly the same age so ever since being a kitten he was first able to climb the dividing wall (in early 2007, go figure...) they grew up playing together. But Sanchez's lurking area is big, and he has many friends (and some cat enemies too) all over the block, so I don't think it will affect him that much. Again, thanks everyone for your kinds words.

Helmut83 I am so sorry to hear about Chula. Losing a pet is always such a difficult thing. It doesn’t make up for all of it, but knowing that you gave her such a good life is a precious thing. Now she is playing around in kitty-heaven. Sending hugs!

Poor Dr. C had a stubborn foot infection called bumblefoot on both of her feet. We fought the infection for months with 3 courses of antibiotics and a lot of foot wrapping on my part (none of this was fun, she's not very cooperative for medicine or foot wrapping ). The vet told me that since she's a spoiled indoor chicken, her feet never got a chance to build up callouses. This means that it would be easy for her to cut her feet and get re-infected. So... she recommended that I get Dr. C some chicken boots. I didn't even know that chicken boots were a thing, but here we are! PS: The people at the vet's office think that Dr. Cluckenstein has the most hilarious name ever. The first time I called on the phone, I had to give her name for the appointment, and the lady I was talking to about died laughing. Whenever I come in, they say "Well, how is the doctor doing today?"

Brilliant, BIuebird ! This made my day. Does she have to wear them indoors or just when you take her out? Also, did you have to manufacture the boots yourself, or do vet shops in the US sell those things?

Brilliant, BIuebird ! This made my day. Does she have to wear them indoors or just when you take her out? Also, did you have to manufacture the boots yourself, or do vet shops in the US sell those things? All the time, unfortunately! I usually have to put them back on at the end of the day, because she's figured out how to kick them off. *face palm* I had to change her over to a softer type of coop bedding, too.
Thank goodness no, I didn't have to make them myself. The vet didn't sell them either, I actually had to search for them online. It turns out that a company in Texas makes them, along with a few other funny chicken products, like birdie crop bras and chicken obstacle courses. lol

chicken obstacle courses. Didn't you think "I have to have one of those!" when you saw them online?

chicken obstacle courses. Didn't you think "I have to have one of those!" when you saw them online? I must admit, I was sorely tempted! However, my empty wallet ended up making that decision for me. I only had enough money to buy the boots. Maybe I will purchase one down the line... If I do, you all will be the first to hear the results!

Aww, a beautiful bird! Is she a bantam? We used to have some, I forget the name of the breed of the chicken though. Maybe I could dig up some pictures. Our chickens were all outside (we live on acreage in a cow town, yee haw ) but when I was little I would join them in their coop and spoil them.

nobodyschild Thanks! I don't think that she's technically a bantam breed, but she does only weight 3.7 lbs! She's an Easter Egger, or basically the equivalent of a chicken mutt. lol Most EEs are a result of breeding Ameraucanas with another random chicken breed. The Ameraucanas carry the blue/green egg gene, which is why they are used for breeding EEs. Dr. C lays green eggs, but EEs can lay blue, green, yellow, brown, or pink eggs! Pretty cool. Well, Dr. C was supposed to live in the outside coop with the silkies, but they didn't get along and would try to beat her up. That's why spoiled Dr. C lives in the house, because I didn't have anywhere else to go with her, haha! That sounds like a great place to live! If we ever move out into the country, I want a whole flock of chickens. We live in the suburbs right now, so we are limited with how many we can have. I would love to see photos of your chickens if you can find them!
