Helmut83He's quite a character, isn't he? Yes, sometimes he's right on point with the whistling. He usually dances willingly, but will only whistle along if I start first. He did do quite a good job of following along with "Sweet Talkin' Woman," though! I was particularly glad that he enjoyed "Summer and Lightning," too. He's got pretty good rhythm, actually, you're right! A good bit more than me, I'll say that. I'm not a very good dancer. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and of course I agree with you on appreciation for S&L. eloneenHe sure does! I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. HoracewimpThanks Horace, I will pass along your praise to Disco.

Wow, what a treat to see Disco bopping away, he must be a really happy and well-adjusted lorikeet. I loved the way he danced differently to both songs too, Summer and Lightning seems to be his particular favourite. Thanks millions for sharing BIuebird

unomusetteHe does do quite a good job of dancing in rhythm with the songs, and you're right, he did dance differently to both of them. My husband had on a mix of songs by different bands the other day, and Disco was sitting on my shoulder swaying to some of them... Then "Showdown" came on and he really went nuts! I think it's safe to say ELO is his favorite band. I'm glad he brightened your day! He's always a bright spot in my day, too.

We had some very nice weather yesterday, which has unfortunately been rare as of late. So, I decided that it would be a good opportunity to take advantage of it and take Dr. Cluckenstein for a walk in the stroller. I think some people had asked for a clip of this, so I took a short one. It's always interesting taking walks with Dr. C. Yesterday, a man on the trail came up to me and said "Your baby sounds funny..." Then he looked into the stroller, "Oh! Well that's new." Also, I don't know if you can see in the video, but there was a lady walking behind me. She caught up and asked to take a picture of the chicken. Dr. C was quite popular. When we got back from the walk, I took some pictures of her sunbathing. Mr. Bluebird says she's a diva, haha! You had asked about a clip of the chicken.

Thank you, BIuebird! Finally we are able to seee how Dr C gets promenaded around the neighbourhood, no wonder it calls everyone's attention! That stroller is great, he looks very comfortable in there while he gets a great look of what's happening ahead. Heck, I'm even starting to think if I shouldn't get myself a chicken and walk him in the afternoon, I bet it would get a few "chicks" interested...

Helmut83She's certainly quite a spoiled chicken, that's for sure! I think she enjoys the view from the stroller very much. She likes attention from people, too. I am not biased or anything, but you should totally get a chicken. They make great pets! I would recommend a hen though, and getting one (or more) as a chick if possible. Hens are typically much friendlier than roosters, and they lay eggs. If you get them as chicks they seem to be even more social with people, provided that you handle them regularly. There are many breeds of chickens; silkies and Easter eggers are supposed to be some of the friendliest. Dr. C is an Easter egger, and Deborah is a silkie. unomusetteThanks, I'm glad you like my spoiled hen!

I'd love to have chickens, I've never heard anything but praise for their underestimated friendliness and enjoyment of being with people. But they are so vulnerable to attack, you want to let them roam about but there seem to be chicken predators behind every tree I would only take the plunge if I had some kind of foxproof fortress for them to retreat to.

unomusette A secure coop is really the key. You could build your own (there are lots of coop blueprints online), or purchase one. You would have to put chicken wire under the coop as well as around the sides, to keep predators from being able to dig underneath it. We also have a pen (the kind they make for dogs) that we put in the yard to keep them from running everywhere when they are foraging. If I am not going to be outside with them, I will cover the pen with a tied down tarp, so that hawks and things can't get them. If I am outside, I usually just keep an eye on them. Nothing around here seems to want to mess with a person. So far, the only trouble we've had, was from one of the neighbors cats (I will spare you my outdoor cat rant, it gets me pretty fired up ). The cat harassed them, but luckily wasn't able to get into the coop. Mr. Bluebird and I weren't home at the time. A neighbor told us what happened, and thankfully chased off the cat!

I've often wondered if a cat would tangle with a chicken, I think it depends on the particular cat and chicken. My friend had some chickens which had come from a battery farm and barely knew what "outside" was when she first had them. However when her cat came anywhere near them they chased him off in no uncertain terms and the cat gave them a wide berth after that.

unomusetteI think you're right, it probably depends on the particular animals. My silkie would run away, but Dr. C would probably try to chase a cat. She chases our dog around, they like to play! Luckily the dog is very tolerant and good with the chickens (although I don't leave them alone together without supervision.)

Just wanted to say that my absence and inactivity on the forum lately is due to my cat Chula whom 8 days ago fell sick, not wanting to eat anything at all. After taking her the vet several times (one of them at 4 a.m. because she looked to be on the verge of passing to the other side) and several studies they found that she had her bowel blocked with a hairball. She had to undergo surgery Friday night in order to remove it. Once she came back she was so sore in the belly (where they cut her open) and psychologically depressed that she still wouldn't eat. Yesterday night I took her to the vet yet once again and after a few injections she came back home more lively and finally began to eat again, so hopefully she's on her way to recovery, although she's still not out of risk.
Pets... nice way of getting yourself into trouble for free. Once you adopt one, you are doomed for the following 15 years or so. It's been a stressful week with this thing, but hopefully in a few days things will be back to normal and allow me more time and energy to lurk around here.
PS: sorry about the delayed answers, I have them in mind and will try to reply soon.
