Was it in Arabian Knights there was a genie or something that would shout "Siiiize of a...." for example "elephant!" and the subject would immediately grow or shrink to that size? Or did I dream that? That’s right I think in the Arabian Knights they all had a special power, one was the “size of a ....” there was also a donkey called Zazuum or something similar when you pulled his tail he wizzes around like a hurricane.

Aaahahahaaaa! I'd forgotten about the donkey! (Edit - this means Jeff approves, not that he reminds me of a donkey)

Oh wow, the toys are AWESOME!! The Banana Splits song was a massive favourite of all kids my age, we were mad for it. Was it in Arabian Knights there was a genie or something that would shout "Siiiize of a...." for example "elephant!" and the subject would immediately grow or shrink to that size? Or did I dream that? You're quite right, Uno - me and my brother used to watch the show as kids (it tended to get repeated during the summer holidays every year). Bez, the shape shifter, was our favourite character from the Arabian Knights. Come to think of it, I bet his catchphrase inspired the song Size Of A Cow by the Wonder Stuff. Here's some more about the show, to jog our collective memories: www.thechestnut.com/banana/knights.htm

Gosh yes, Size of a Cow must surely have been inspired by Arabian Knights. And I wonder if Bez from the Happy Mondays pinched the name from the shapeshifter? I'm going to imagine that he did anyway, it's too perfect

Dear Drooper was like an agony aunt section where he read out letters from kids wanting answers to problems. I'm getting a feeling that us UK forumites loved it and US forumites didn't....

Dear Drooper! I'd forgotten that too! I think you're right Timeblue, we UK kids were more used to The Woodentops and Flowerpot Men so something as mad as Banana Splits blew our minds.

Speaking of blowing minds (or rather messing with our minds), a few years later in the UK we got this ....
jeez, someone must have been taking something to come up with this!

I'd forgotten that too, more of a Brit Rocker edge with a lot less give in the costumes Who remembers this one? Apparently the HR stands for Hand Rolled and Pufnstuff is Puffin' stuff...

I do recall H R Pufnstuf, but never watched it. Again, the live action Saturday shows were just not appealing to me at all. My hubby didn't like Pufnstuf either. As far as the weekday children's shows were concerned, I liked the ones on PBS : I did like Sesame Street (as a very young kid), The Electric Company, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, Kaptain Kangaroo (not on PBS), and even Romper Room when I was very little -- but I was disappointed that the teacher never called my name at the end of each show when she was listing all the kids that she "saw" ; I did not like Zoom. I thought the kids on the show were too hyper and very fake. " src="//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png">

We had HR Pufnstuf but it wasn't a success here as I recall, possibly TOO American for English tastes?

I've never seen the Banana Splits, but I've heard of them, of course. I do know the theme song somehow, but that's about it. My mom recounted a number of the shows that she and her brothers watched when they were children, including Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men when they lived in the UK, and the Banana Splits and HR Pufnstuf. They all sounded quite bizarre, but then I suppose most kids' shows are!

Too old at 10 for Banana Splits?? You must have been an intellectual child. I was still watching it at 30! The words 'intellectual' and 'BSJ' in the same sentence? that's a first....
Timeblue , I made a cake in your image. Your welcome!
Like the writers, I think I'd have to burn a fatty to fully appreciate the Splits. I'll let y'all know.
