Point Of No Return could be a Foo Fighters song. Latitude 88 North has a chorus that sounds very similar to some pop-punk/emo songs of the mid 00's.

Question
Does ELO's "Hold On Tight" sound like "Look What They've Done to My Song Ma" by The New Seekers or Melanie's original, all complete with French verses?
First I've heard of it, over at the Steve Hoffman Music Forums recently, then via a Google search, found Straight Dope had this brought up back in 2015 as well.
But I don't think so, also my Mom who got me into music and knows both songs doesn't either!

Read the post above and played "Look What They've Done to My Son" at 1.25 speed, and the resemblance to "Hold On Tight" is uncanny in specific aspects, even if the former contains a number of different bridges and is distinctly awash in a 1920s French cabaret aesthetic (at least the New Seekers version) - "Hold On Tight" did contain an entire verse of French lyrics though, which seems to reinforce the coincidental (or are they?) similarities.

The very end string section/bridge on "Whitchita linesman" by Glenn Campbell always reminds me of E.L.O. as does "Music" by John Miles......as does and I apologise for this one S.O.S. by Abba. And noi am not comparing Jeff or E.L.O. to ABBA. As I have a severe pain in my nuts to those who do! Anyway thur ye have it! I sincerely hope this is not a difamation to ABBA. ABBA is as legendary as ELO. If there is a VIP section in heaven only for legends, all four from ABBA have access to the VIP inside the VIP.

If you relax and listen to that part of Sun King where John goes "Quando para mucho mi amore de felice corazón" you'll get the same feeling of being deep under the sea as on The Whale.
Also, at least to me The Whale sounds as some level music from a Sonic the Hedgehog game. I'm not sure which game and which level, but everytime I hear The Whale, I feel like I'm controlling the blue guy.

Here it is, brings me back to my childhood! I think of this whenever I hear The Whale:
Also this, if you speed it down to 0.75:
Maybe it's the early digital sounds that have the same effect on me.
