David Bowie Lets Dance and The Clash Bankrobber move on from round one.
I've dusted off more vinyl and have the following songs for round two, you can vote for TWO songs and the top two will move into the next round.

Hounds of Love and Romeo & Juliet
Gary Numan is fantastic but this song just isn't my fave.
I've never even heard of Jon and Vangelis.

Tough one this as again I love all four artists,if we are going on the songs alone then for me it has to be TA and DS (only just squeezing past J and V) KB song is much overplayed imo.....

The TA song was such a game changer in the UK for me.

Kate Bush because I really like the Hounds of Love album and Gary Numan because I have the song on 7". I feel like I've heard the Jon and Vangelis song before.

I don't like any of these much either , but I'd go for Kate Bush and Dire Straits if I had to choose, so they get my votes...Interesting that Timeblue says that one of them is overplayed. I can't say that I'd be able to name any of them if I heard them on the radio...

I'm guessing that the USA has better radio shows than here, apart from radio 2 there is nothing that excites me anymore radio wise. You all know my thoughts on independent stations like absolute, heart, magic and smooth where the emphasis is on the dj not the music.

R&J was an easy first choice, pondered over Kate and Gary and ended up plumping for Hounds of Love but it was a close thing.

Kate Bush, easy choice. Outstanding in her field (and not only when she was filming her Wuthering Heights video!)
Also, Jon and Vangelis (Mr Papathanassiou being one of my, er, special favourite musicians).

I'm guessing that the USA has better radio shows than here, apart from radio 2 there is nothing that excites me anymore radio wise. You all know my thoughts on independent stations like absolute, heart, magic and smooth where the emphasis is on the dj not the music. Almost all radio stations in the US are local stations (some may have national programming or have a special format/ formula/style that lots of other stations share). We have at least a dozen or so different ones in my area, with a variety of formats: two National Public Radio stations (one with mostly news and some interviews, talk/game shows and some music , mainly specialty programs with bluegrass, blues and other "roots" music, and often NC artists); another with news and talk with a mostly jazz music format, with some blues, gospel, early R& B, 70s funk, reggae and Afropop programming. The commercial stations run the gamut: oldies hits from a variety of genres; current hits from a variety of genres; current pop; classic rock; R&B oldies; country; a couple of Spanish language music and talk stations; a classical station; religious stations that have preaching and/or contemporary Christian music, current hiphop/ rap; sports talk radio; political talk and news stations, etc.The local colleges and universities also have their own student run stations, where anything goes sometimes, and the format can change dramatically with the dj. ! There may be more...Lots of variety around here! I listen regularly to the public radio station with mostly news and very intelligent and civil interview/ talk shows during the week, and the general oldies station most of the time for music. But I prefer the Saturday programming on the other public station - early R& B and funk music shows during the day, and good jazz radio documentaries/concerts/ interviews in the evenings (instead of bluegrass music and game shows amongst other things I don't like on the other one). Sunday afternoon Afropop is fun, and I like the classical station sometimes, too. Occasionally I'll listen to the classic rock or commercial R&B oldies station, but not often, because the general oldies station covers a wide variety of older hits, and that suits me just fine! So yeah, lots of variety -- a little something for everyone!

Went for Romeo and Juliet and Are Friends Electric. Tough to choose since the songs are all very different styles.

In my opinion Romeo and Juliet stands out a lot above the others. The Jon and Vangelis song isn't bad, but that rhythm will never work for any song of any kind. Those two get my votes. The other two I didn't like.

Jon and Vangelis... Jon Anderson - lead singer with the band Yes. And Vangelis... What can I say about Vangelis? He wrote the music for Chariots Of Fire and his music was used in the greatest series about space that there's ever been - Carl Sagan's Cosmos. Although I love Romeo And Juliet - the only track I'm voting for here is I'll Find My Way Home. I love that more - and it deserves recognition
