The album was bought for me as a present. I didn't see it in the cinema - we didn't have a cinema in town. MANY years later I caught it on telly. Hmm... I enjoyed the music Ah, but the album... Still a terrific collection of great songs - on both the ONJ and ELO sides. (thoughts and love to Olivia )

I saw it and loved it. But then again, hanging at the roller rink and listening to ELO was my life at that time. Those were the days🙂 The last time I wore rollerskates,ELO were definitely not in my life....

Has anyone seen Xanadu the Musical? I was looking at the State Theatre's calendar because The Orchestra will be playing there next Spring. (State Theatre is in Pennsylvania) But coming soon - Xanadu! the fact that the ad leads with RuPaul's "drag" race rather than the music of ELO and ONJ does make me wonder what sort of show this is XANADU, the hilarious roller-skating musical adventure, hailed as “the most fun you’ll have on Broadway” (The New Yorker), returns in a national tour with some fierce new twists! XANADU follows the beautiful Greek muse Kira, as she journeys from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, circa 1980, on a quest to inspire scrappy artist-on-the-rise Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO! But when Kira stumbles into forbidden love with Sonny, a mere mortal, her salty sisters (RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Ginger Minj and Jinkx Monsoon) take matters into their own hands. statetheatre.org/events/xanadu

I haven't seen it, but I heard it got great reviews and won awards. Is the one you're reading about a revival of the original, an adapted version of that one, or the same show with a very different cast adding a new flavor to the tone of the production?

I've only just learned that there is another tour, eloneen - but Wikipedia describes it as a 2nd US tour (the original run on broadway, then tour #1, now a new version that adds the RuPaul drag racers. here's a quote about the original run << Hilton Als' review in The New Yorker called Xanadu "probably the most fun you’ll have on Broadway this season, one reason being that everything about it is so resolutely anti-Broadway. In its wildness and ecstasy, Xanadu is a welcome relief from the synthetic creations that some Broadway producers have been peddling for years. Here you can’t count the disco balls fast enough—not to mention the roller skates, the frosted-pink lips, and the glittering spandex that the director, Christopher Ashley, hurls at you like a PCP flashback. Xanadu is far sleazier and cheesier than conventional musical theatre, and it points out just how tame most other musicals are." >> sounds like the new tour is keeping the sleeze and cheese alive

I had heard about Xanadu the musical before. This one sounds like either a redone version or a different cast. I have never seen the movie or the musical but don’t think I’d want to see the musical because despite what you’d expect the music doesn’t seem all that great. Getting ready for one of our Cinderella shows last spring in the makeup/dressing room one of our hair/makeup girls was playing music and Xanadu came on and I simply had to blurt out “oh, guess who this is!” Surrounded by theatre fanatics they all go “Olivia Newton-John” (knowing her role in Grease) and I’m like “well yeah but I mean that’s Jeff Lynne and ELO on the backing vocals and things, they did part of the soundtrack you know”—but long story short, no one knew that Xanadu had actually been a movie in the 80s before it had taken on some form of a musical, which most of them knew songs from, including a very strange version of “Evil Woman” (that somehow fits into the musical) that she then played on her phone next and I cringed my way through it and made her play the real one after that. I think I will watch Xanadu the movie though simply because I’m curious and obviously the soundtrack. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've never seen Xanadu nor listened to the non-ELO half of my CD of the soundtrack. I'm sure the movie can't be truly awful, I'd watch it if it came on TV but wouldn't set the video though.

This is an interesting article, published in today's Guardian, on Xanadu's 40th anniversary. I never saw it in the cinema and didn't make it to the end when it was shown on telly. But, the sound track was a present from a very loved uncle and aunt. I loved it then - and still love it. The film... well...?

I still haven't seen it. Which is kind of strange, since I saw Grease three times, mainly because I thought Olivia Newton-John was amazing. Grease has the distinction of actually being good!!

The music has never been a problem, although I have rarely played the A side the B side feature some of Jeffs best work so much so he now includes AOTW in his live shows and he re did X for Flashback.
