With the start of Eldorado using a backing orchestra to Out of the Blue, what became of the string trio? ELO liner notes say that on they were played on the records but how much? Were they playing exactly what the backing orchestra played? Or only solo bits here and there. Some sites have said that they string players didn't play at all on these albums but then again Rob Caiger said that the string players are mixed in the orchestra on songs like "Waterfall." Lots of sites say Kaminski only plays on three Out of the Blue tracks, Gale on one and McDowell on none, but I've never seen this cited on any official ELO-based website. I never know what to trust! Haha, so does anyone know?

Coincidentally I was just reading this in a Melvyn Gale interview from a link in another thread: Martin: A question that someone asked me to ask you - Are you and Hugh actually playing cello on the albums - I always assumed that you were, I know not all tracks feature cello but others had quite a lot didn't they, Can you remember what tracks you are on most and did you and Hugh have equal share of playing
Melvyn: Of course we are. We went and recorded in the studios in bits and pieces, but what found its' way through to the final blended mix is another matter I guess? I can certainly pick out sections on all the albums I was involved with

Yeah, I've read that one. It's a very nice read and I hope someday Mel would actually join this forum and tell us more! Haha.
I still wonder specifically what the string players would play. Hardly any real documentation on that matter. But then again, there is relatively little information on the affairs of ELO than other bands. Sometimes I wish there was more.
