Thankfully I wasn't alive in those times. I don't think I could stand listening to Mr Blue Sky every time I turned the radio on.
But hey, it's far from being the worse song on that list:
- "Bittersweet symphony" is already too repetitive if you play it once a year, imagine several times a day.
- "Don't Stop Believing"... the worst case, I hate that song with all my heart. Inferno scenario.
- "Take me home country roads" is OK to listen from time to time, but all the time? You'd want to kill yourself.
- "Wonderwall": Liam's Gallagher voice is too irritating to bear on a regular basis.

When the crappy UK stations such as heart, absolute, magic etc etc all think that ELO only ever had one hit then it's quite plausible that MBS is going to be up there....

I can't believe that neither The Beatles or David Bowie get a mention whilst the likes of Wonderful Christmas Time is in there....

I'm sure there must have been more popular/worthy songs from 1977 to stream than 'MBS' - I adore 'MBS' (on a reasonable level) but 1977 was a key musical year wasn't it? It's got to be more of a reflection on current times than an actual measure of what's popular. Sadly I think most of the songs on this list will be the one track posterity will remember of them - Toto for instance, who can name any of their other hits? Yet Queen, Fleetwood Mac and ELO can all be confident that they have huge knowledgeable fan bases. I doubt there is a Toto internet forum.
Also, just because a track is streamed surely doesn't mean it's popular - just means a person clicked on something out of curiosity, it doesn't measure whether the curious streamer ever went back to the track to listen again does it?

The Toto song "Hold The Line" was placed in our local bar jukebox. We played it so much that Toto probably lived off those royalties. Bartender Lonnie finally had enough and the record was removed.

MBS wasn't considered among ELO's best during that "Time" and wasn't played as much as their other hits.

I second that tightrope. How lucky we were for all that music made during the golden age of the 60's and 70's.

Not to go against what you said guys, but I feel happy that I can have free instant access to all the music I want, new and old. In terms of access to music, this is the golden age for me.
Of course, the downside is that I cannot see the fantastic '70s artists live, but in those times none of them used to come to Argentina so I wouldn't have been able to see them live anyway.

I’m going to have to agree with tightrope and BSJ ... I can only name 20-30 songs released since the turn of the century that I’d actually choose to listen to on-demand. Of course, YouTube and Spotify make it more convenient for me to enjoy all the older music I enjoy, but without hesitation I would trade these to go back in time a handful of decades... I guess I just have an old soul...

I guess I just have an old soul... I agree with you about music being pretty depressing since the year 2000 on, but that's not the music I enjoy on the internet. Thankfully I can search for lots of old music, something you couldn't do back then. Nah, give me these days all the way. Heck, if I could choose, I think I would like to have been born a couple of decades later than I was.

I get what you are saying. I'm still discovering music from decades ago thanks to our technology but there was the feeling of being young and hearing the music when it was fresh and new that can't be replicated.

We had a record player only for 7"s. Great memories of enjoying that player are stirred up when listening to 60/70's music.
