Well, unless I missed it in the 5 pages of Open Discussion, or somewhere else, it doesn't seem like we have a thread for users to share their visual art? Please correct me if I'm wrong, though, I don't want to start this up needlessly! I thought it would be nice to have a page for art sharing, since there seem to be a few where fellow users can share their music. There must be some other creative types out there, yes? You can post any type of visual art- paintings, sculpture, jewelry, photography, creative photoshopping, etc. I sort of do a little bit of everything, with the exception of photography and photoshopping. I've never been very talented in those areas. Here are some of my acrylic paintings, complete with feathery subjects, of course. These are from my "Avian Royalty" series-
Red Morph Eastern Screech Owl, with Swarovski crystals Purple-Throated Sunangel, with Swarovski Crystals This one was actually our wedding cake topper. I sculpted the Velvet Purple Coronet Hummingbirds from Super Sculpey (a polymer clay) and painted them with acrylics. The silk flowers I added after the painting was done: Here is some of my favorite stuff to make, but also the most costly! These are pieces I made with the lost wax casting process. I sculpted models of these in wax, then had them cast in sterling silver. When I was in college, I had the equipment available to cast them myself. However, the equipment is costly and some of it takes up a good bit of space. So, now I send my models to a casting company that completes that step for me. These are all pendants: Magpie with a Shiny- Sterling silver with liver of sulfur patina and tanzanite Avian Hearts, Snowy Owl- Sterling silver with silver blackener patina and rhodolite garnet Avian Hearts, Adelie Penguin- Sterling silver with liver of sulfur patina and rhodolite garnet These are actually kind of neat. My husband loves Star Wars, so I made us lightsaber pendants. I set glass tritium vials into these, which glow constantly for about 12 years. The stone I set into my husband's is actually back-lit by the vial, which I thought was pretty cool. Oh, how I wish they made circular tritium vials! I would love to make a glowing ELO spaceship pendant. Maybe I can find another way to do it. Sterling silver with silver blackener patina, the one on the left (my husband's) has an orange sapphire in it, the one on the right (which is obviously mine, the bird!) has a tanzanite set in it.
Here are the wax models I made of them, just to give you an idea of the process. I also do digital art with my pen tablet and Photoshop, which is how I drew the concert t-shirt design. This is my art business logo. It's a lineolated parakeet (yes, the linnie! ) : Sorry, that was rather longer than I expected it to be. As I start finishing more "Bird Bands," I will probably post them here, too. I'd love to see the creative endeavors of my forum mates, though!

BIuebird Beautiful work! I can be fairly creative, but I don't have very good visual-spatial skills, so I admire the work of those who do!

You have Great talent, BIuebird .
Dave is into Star Wars too and thought you'd sell the heck out of those pendants at a Comic-con.

HoracewimpThanks Horace, and I'm sure your house looks fantastic! dillwynThanks very much! Uh oh, did I start something? Actually, doing album art would probably be fun. eloneenThank you. Aww, I'm sure that your creativity shines through in lots of ways! I think you need to be a pretty creative person in general to be a teacher. BSJAww, thank you. I probably could sell them, if I wasn't afraid George Lucas would sue me. They are quite time consuming and expensive to make, though! The tritium vials alone are not cheap. I couldn't get the idea of the ELO spaceship out of my head (haha), so I looked up how much the vials I would need for it would cost. I'd need about 16 6mm long vials, which would cost me almost $100, and that's before the shipping and the silver casting charges. I might have to put that one on the back burner. I'm glad you like the magpie, that was one of my favorites to make!

Lucas is something else.
Dave makes trivets out of wine corks. He uses wire to hold them together. Meaning he has to drill two holes in each cork and they need to be close to the same size so they line up. It can take him about an hour to make one. We thought of selling them, because they are really cool, but for the time and supplies (we can get some corks free, but you need a lot of them and not all corks are useable) he'd have to charge at the very least $25 a pop. No one understands the process, so they think they're too expensive. But everyone wants one!

BSJThat he is! Oh man, tell Dave I know the struggle. People don't understand the time and material costs that go into making things like that. Those trivets sound really cool, though! I'd love to see pictures, if you have any. I've tried to sell my pendants at local art shows, but people think $50-75 is too much for a sterling silver piece. They don't realize what the materials cost or how many hours of work go into them. Honestly, with the prices I put on them, I was probably selling myself a little short.

You are massively talented BIuebird, I hope you are able to find an outlet where you can sell your creations. $50 - 75 doesn't sound hugely expensive in the right sort of market, for instance in London I bet they'd sell like hot cakes. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing what everyone else has created.

unomusette Aww, thank you. Yes, people were saying I might have more luck in a place like New York. I guess we're all too poor here, haha! Sadly, London is across the pond from me. I'd love to visit some day, I actually have a number of relatives living there. My mom was born in Croydon, and moved to the states when my grandad was offered a job here in the 70s. BSJ Wow, those are very cool! The one with the colorful corks is particularly eye catching. I can see that Dave must put a lot of time into each one of them. I'm impressed that he can do all that in an hour!

I've sampled many of those wines. I don't save my corks though. Lovely work, and very practical.

I'm hopeless with anything sculptural. I've worked in acrylics and pastels, but digital art is what I'm best at. It's still very primitive. The written word is my forte.
I'll post a little digital art later on.
