Hi everybody,
Any news on Richard? I didn't see him in the group photo in Oakland... Strange. I hope he's getting better from whatever he's having...

I was so looking forward to seeing him on the tour though he may have decided to call it a career. It could be that he doesn't like all of the traveling and may just play UK dates but thats just a guess.

Hope Richard plays the European dates, but I don't think he will.
It's probably Richard's own choice that ELO doesn't communicate why he's not participating.

Someone on here suggested that Richard might have carpal tunnel. If that's the case, he may have decided to quit. I, too, am saddened that he's not with Jeff.

Is there anything in the tour program regarding Richard? Also who is the new keyboard player?

Whatever Rich is going through at the moment I hope it isn't what someone has suggested.
There's no delicate way of telling the public when all it would do is put them in a panic for no reason.
If he is dealing with something so aggressive he's chosen to emancipate himself from dealing with it until Team Jeff can give us a straight answer.
Privacy is the watchword for now.

I don't think either Jeff nor Richard know that we care so much about Magic Fingers.
Maybe a lot of the recent ELO audiences or fans who don't look into the band too deeply don't even know about Mr Tandy and it's only we "serious" fans who'll be missing him. Maybe Richard thinks he is too much a background man for anyone to miss him?

My guess is that Richard is probably not caught up in considering what the fans think, not out of selfishness or callousness, though. It just doesn't seem to be his personality, I think. It's clear that he loves the music and loves to play. If, in fact, he has health/injury recovery issues preventing him from performing on the tour, I believe he is thinking about this in practical terms -- what is best for his health, what is easiest for the band and for the quality of the music night after night, and thinking perhaps that this may be a good time to retire. After all these years, and at his age, I don't blame him, really. Who knows? He may show up at later shows on the tour.

Disappointed that we won’t be seeing him tonight at the Pepsi Center, but still believe it will be a great show.

I hope he is aware that we're thinking of him, but I like to imagine that all our good wishes are sending him positive karma anyway.

If Richard was thinking of retiring it would have been nice to give him a big send off at a show to say goodbye and thank you.
Many performers of his talent and position would be uncomfortable without a public profile, it says a lot about Richard's personality that he has probably never in his career even thought of stepping into the limelight.
If ELO was Roy, Jeff and Bev then Richard was never an official founder and so perhaps still thinks of himself as a guest in the ELO phenomena?

I can't speak for anyone else but Richard was and is very much a part of MY ELO. He had more to do with the sound of ELO than Bev though Bev was a great drummer. I credit Roy for recognizing Jeff's talent and giving him the boost he needed early on but thats about it. As far as realizing how fans feel about him, how can he not know?

Richard is so very important. He spans the join between the Move and ELO more successfully than either Roy or Jeff - Jeff came late and Roy went early. Even though Richard wasn't officially a Move member he was still in the background with his magic fingers. He's always been there. He's the reliable one.
While we're going to miss him if he doesn't play on the tour, at least he's done his duty to us with all the work he's put in over the years.
