Don't worry, elophile ! I've invited the two disappointed muscular gentlemen to leave the hotel lobby. As soon as I stepped on the street, I saw two other guys that might fulfill better to your exigencies: scrawny, hairy and they looked eager to be your groupies. Here they are: Oh, hmmm. They're um, are they twins?! They're hairy and scrawny. I guess I forgot to mention that I prefer my groupies to be somewhat attractive as well. Anyway, Helmut83 you've made a lot of effort and I wouldn't want to trouble you any further so I've changed my mind. I don't want any groupies. I'm good!!!

Oh, so many exigencies, elophile! Good luck finding someone hairy, scrawny and attractive, that combination is as rare as they come.

Inspired by the example of our Helmut83, I have also been steppin' out of my comfort zone, musically. Last night I went to my local folk club and sang a solo there. It was a "singaround" night - anyone could come along, you could sing a song if you wanted to, or just listen. I sang a funny song written by my comedian friend Mitch. No recording of my cover version (thankfully!) but here's the original, so you can hear how clever Mitch's creation is. It's a parody of those Sixties songs about girls whose biker boyfriends met with an accident and ended up in biker heaven ("Leader Of The Pack", "Tell Laura I Love Her", "Terry", etc) A few years ago I would never have dared to sing in public, but since we've formed The Street Next Door, everyone on here has been so nice about my singing, it has boosted my confidence. So thank you, forumheads all By the way, the folk club audience didn't throw things at me - they asked if I knew anything else! The organiser (who was Welsh) invited me to sing a Welsh folk song while he accompanied me on guitar. So that sort of counts as getting an encore....?! And I didn't attract any groupies, but one bloke gave me his email address. Not sure if he was an important man from the Industrial Revolution a major bank though.

Wooo! A billion congrats vlogdance , on plucking up the courage to sing in public (and top marks to Helmut83 for encouraging you) That song was made for you, I bet you sang it better than the girl in the clip. And the lyrics are almost as good as your Street Next Door creations, such a hoot. Did you sing the folk song as well? And, more importantly, are you going back to follow up your triumphant debut, maybe even with a SNS song? Go you! Edit: Is it just me, or does Mitch look like a slightly plumper version of Mr K? smileys-whistling-823718

I can also imagine vlogdance singing this funny pop song. How awesome, congrats that you dared to grab the mic in front of the audience and sing, and judging by the reactions of the guy who asked you to sing another one and the one who gave you the email it was a success! Next time make sure you bring us your live version, Vlog bach! You can ask soemone on the audience to film you. As Uno says, I'm sure you probably did it better than the original, and there's nothing like seeing the actual forumhead performing it. Glad the Street Next Door gave you confidence to go for it. unomusette : I'm totally with you about Vlog's friend having a ressemblance to Mr K.

Very proud of you, vlogdance ! It's fantastic you fighting through your fear! Ah, thank you BSJ bach. And unomusette and Helmut83 as well. (But Mitch really doesn't look anything like Mr K! The photos must be misleading.) I'm not sure the folk club audience would be ready for the SND experience yet - they might be a bit bemused by for songs about naming your cactus, dancing in your sleep, or super-fast helpful llamas! P.S. Yes, Uno bach, I did sing the folk song as well. Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, do you know that one? We learned it at school.

Nonsense, vlogdance bach, the folk club would love the songs, well the sleep-dancing and llama ones anyway, the cactus one would come with proper groupiedom. The song is a new one on me, we learned a song about a blackbird and the national anthem and that was about it. Good to hear you're bringing your Welsh heritage to the masses, blimmin' well done

Well done vlogdance for stepping up to the mike Did you ask the man if he had a statue of himself in Birmingham, if so he was definitely someone important from the Industrial Revolution.

Edit: Is it just me, or does Mitch look like a slightly plumper version of Mr K? unomusette : I'm totally with you about Vlog's friend having a ressemblance to Mr K. I'd forgotten this, but Mitch actually mentions ELO in one of his funny songs. In the song, "Llandudno", he jokes about his admiration for many aspects of this Welsh seaside town, including the locals at the disco: "Grooving to Wizzard and ELO..." (To be fair, I think he just needed the rhyme. But thank you, Mitch, anyway.) And he saw Jeff's set at Glastonbury. AND he totally understood, when I told him about my happy set list moment in Poland.

going to see this guy on Monday, had a (locally) popular rock band in his '20s but never caught on outside of the Baltimore area - it's kind of Beatlesque pop and it's hard to beat the originals (although ELO came very close)
curious to see what ELO fans think of him - have a listen
one of his earlier rock songs
one of his more recent pop songs
