Off Discogs I ordered: www.discogs.com/Electric-Light-Orchestra-Out-Of-The-Blue/release/342681. At the bottom of this page is a reviewer claiming this pressing is the Half Speed Master. I received it today and it sounded incredible despite some surface noise. If this IS a 1/2 speed master why wasn't it label as such. Are there any other albums that are 1/2 speed masters and not noted on the cover. I do have the 1/2 speed version of Time and Disco Very, but not greatest hits. I went and ordered another copy of OOTB, hopefully with quieter vinyl.

I am really unfamiliar with the master pressings though I just found this, it's Stan Ricker the Master Pressing specialist based in America. It may explain why there is SR/ etc etched in the run-out. rickermaster.com/Default.htm

Good bit of discussion regarding the various pressings of OOTB over here.

If there's "SR/2" in the runout grooves, that's Stan Ricker's notation for half speed mastering. I had a lengthy email chat with him a few years ago regarding recording OOTB. Jeff and the band hand delivered the master tapes to him (in America) for the half speed mastering. The albums he did were not labeled anything special because he wasn't doing it for "special" releases, he just did it for the best sound. It wasn't until later that the record companies marketed half speed mastering as something special. In fact, Stan also did the first LP mastering for "Discovery". You have first editions if both sides have "SR/2" etched in them. -WW
