Great telling of the tale eloneen , sounds like you did us all proud with your epic song knowledge and dancing. You do look uber-cool too in your t-shirt and shades, surely nobody looked better that day? Our friend is a bit modest obviously.

I've seen several ELO tribute bands on Youtube and these guys are the most impressive so far. Thank you eloneen for sharing with us! Glad you agree tightrope. I'm glad I was able to be there! I think most people enjoyed the concert, but there were not many other people there who seemed to understand how good they are as a tribute band, so I gave them lots of support! Once I get some rest for my sun-scorched brain, I'll tackle my tech issues with getting the other photos up. A call to "tech support" ( my teenage son) should do the trick.

Bree (the young woman in the band) noticed my shirt right away and gave me a thumbs up during the sound check!

I have a couple more pictures, but I'll post them later. Here they are. Sorry for the delay and the quality of the photos. Attachment DeletedHere is A New World Record on stage during the first show on July 5, 2017. Attachment DeletedHere I am trying to strike a sassy pose on stage with the band after the show. Nice people!! The musician with the red vest (really cool dude) got this same picture on his phone for the band to have. (Band leader Nigel Holland is second from the left.)

Mr. eloneen was not really familiar with "Jungle" before this trip. (I sometimes skip it when listening to OOTB.) As luck would have it, we listened to OOTB on the way up to VA, and talked about "Jungle" and how different it is from the rest of the album. He recognized it and really liked it when he heard ANWR performing it live the other night. I've been humming it and singing little bits from it since then, too. Apparently he now has a "Jungle" earworm. Last night we had the following conversation: Mr. eloneen : "Great. Now I've got that animal song in my head. You know, the one with the zoo or whatever..." Me: " It's 'Jungle,' Sweetie." Mr. eloneen : "Yeah, that one." Me: "Want me to sing it for you? 'I was standing in the jungle...' " Mr. eloneen : "No thanks. Arghh!" Another ELO fan in the making?

I'm wearing shades from none other than Dollar Tree, where everything costs $1 (or less), and an $11.00 bootleg cheap import tee shirt that I ordered online. Topping that off is the free Virginia tourism bumper sticker from the Virginia Welcome Center off the highway. I think my cargo capri pants came from WalMart (on sale, of course), and I've had those super comfy sandals for about nine years. Not everyone sacrifices as much as I do to achieve a great look, but I'm willing to keep doing it as long as the cash holds up! Again, not a word of this to anyone, OK?

First of all, how is it possible that I didn't come across this thread before? Heck, I even missed your @ reference somehow, Eloneen, I must have missed it among the others, what a shame! But I'm here to catch up now... Second... JUNGLE?!?!?!?!?! Noooo, how is it possible??? It must be the first time any band in the world plays "Jungle" and I'm not there to witness it -well, probably because it must be the first time it's played live at all-!!! What a privileged fan you are, eloneen! I really envy you. No wonder you shook yourself to the rhythm, even if you don't want to call that "dancing". Still, you deserve a spanking for the confession that sometimes you skip it when OOTB is playing. Despite your efforts to hide it away, it's good to know Mr. Eloneen knows what's good when he hears it. The setlist called my attention. It's all big hits... and Jungle. How cool that you managed to take yourself a picture with the band members, I'm pretty sure they must have felt chuffed when they saw the T-shirt you were wearing, and at the same time they must have felt the pressure of knowing they couldn't screw up much on this show because a true hardcore fan would be listening to every single note they played. Well done on representing! What a great experience, eloneen, it's good to hear there's people around willing to play Jeff Lynne's music live, enjoying it and making others enjoy it. Great chronicle. PS: a place with ELO live music, gazebos, green grass, palm trees and statues of naked Greek deities, all promoted under the motto " is for lovers"? Why was I born so far away from that?

Listening to the audio on their website, I think these guys sound great. Near identical musically, and the vocals are spot on too.

PS: a place with ELO live music, gazebos, green grass, palm trees and statues of naked Greek deities, all promoted under the motto " is for lovers"? Why was I born so far away from that? I was wondering why you hadn't said anything about "Jungle" yet! BTW, "Tightrope" was not a hit, either, but it was the show opener on their big tour in 1978, so it does have a history of being played. Nigel Holland told me that he wanted ANWR to play something that not a lot of folks would know, and he thought "Jungle" would be fun. Hubby liked "Jungle" live, but that doesn't mean he wants to hear it in the car. I'm still working on him, though. As far as the punishment goes, I'm a member of the American Association of Retired Persons (True! Even though I'm not retired, I'm eligible by age, so I joined); so elder abuse laws may apply to this situation. Shame, shame! You're a lawyer, so you should know about these things. The band was really happy to have me in the audience! They could tell right away that I knew all the songs and that I was excited and enjoying the show!! This area is the centerpiece of the beachfront area in VA Beach. Neptune is the only Greek god who has a statue there. I will have more pictures in the Tourism thread at some point. We liked this area of the beach because, in addition to the reasons you mentioned, it was close to the main road, the parking deck, and very clean public toilets--all very important.

"Tightrope" was the opener in the JL concert I attended last year in London. It's also the opener of an album and as you say it has been played live before (it was played in the "Zoom" tour as well), so while it might not be a big hit it's a song Jeff considers important and you wouldn't be too surprised to know it's part of a setlist. Well, being a lawyer I also know that it's the Argentine law which applies to this case, and unfortunately the elderly here aren't as respected as in the States, which means there is no Association of Retired Persons and being member of an American one won't protect you from Argie punishment. I'm in a good mood today though so I'll be benevolent this time... only if you commit yourself to not re-offend in the crime of skipping "Jungle" for the next year. Otherwise, watch out! VA Beach looks like an interesting place, but the question remains: does it live up to it's motto?

Some time in the next few days I'm going to attempt to post short video segments (filmed with a Kindle tablet) from the concert last week. I hesitated to mention this before because I did not want to promise and not be able to deliver. Now that my little (almost 6ft tall!!) tech guru is back at home with me, I may have a chance at getting it right. If he is not able to figure it out, I may need to ask someone else for help. If there is anyone on the forum who has insight into how to do this-- please be nice, as I am quite dense when it comes to technology-- I would be most grateful for your assistance in this endeavor. ( I do know how to write real pretty, though! )
