1. Oi! I liked this post before thinking about it for a bit longer.... (...) 2. I'm considering a competition to guess the size of it but I might be insulted all over again if everyone guesses "huge"..... 1. I'm not sure what strange interpretation you gave to that, but I was assuming a ninja's brass would be specially designed to slide through the air at full speed and accurately hit the wrongdoers in the precise place. 2. Since when is being generously gifted up there a bad thing for women???

I shall ignore the implication that me bra is big enough to fit right over Paul McCartney's face (ha! he should be so lucky!)

The history and photos of unomusette and Horacewimp posts are a wonderment. Croatia is amazing. I’m still thinking of H W and family having to land in Idi Amin’s country. Mario would have had no problem dealing with him! My trip to Venice was not a good time. So Uno’s story and photos are making up for it. It’s neat to think, hey! St Marks Sq – I’ve been there! Uno, that lion suits you. Money shot. Should call this thread “Horace Wimp’s Armchair Traveler Threater”!

I would like to second that suggestion Sorry to hear you had a bad time there BSJ I agree with you about dealing with Amin though, Mario would have sorted him out with withering looks and poisonous hissings.

Great "racconto", Uno, both photographic and written! Glad you enjoyed so much. Venice looks remarakably beautiful and so full of statues. From this set I particularly liked the golden facade of that house, with all the round arches, very goodlooking. I must say the winged lion has something in his face that makes him far from intimidating. At first I thought it was one particular statue that came out a bit wrong, but then in all of them he has that tired and sourpuss expression of someone whose wife makes his life impossible. More than jump over you, he looks like he'll invite you for a drink so he can tell you about his dramas. Who knows what's the story behind that mortified face? I was also nosing the full photo collection a bit; let me tell you, it's a crime that you didn't buy the blue-eyed cat! It would have made a great ornament to have in your house, but then again I'm sure they would have charged you a small fortune for it. BSJ, why was your experience in Venice so bad?

Thanks for the positive feedback Helmut83 Photobucket is playing up at the moment so I can't check for the blue eyed cat - did you mean the mask? I bet it would have been expensive, plus as we were flying uber-budget we only had very full rucksacks as luggage, so even if it did fit in it would have been horribly squished. You're right, most of the winged lions did look quite calm, except that one on the Rialto banner - can you translate the slogan? I'm guessing it's not a cheerful message, judging by the snarling face.

I wonder in Parsley was based on the Venice lion.

Yeah, I meant the mask. Those masks were badass.

You're right, most of the winged lions did look quite calm, except that one on the Rialto banner - can you translate the slogan? You know, that banner surprised me a lot because it's not written in Italian but in Spanish. Although there isn't a 100% exact translation to English (because the verb in Spanish is impersonal), the closest would be "do not touch Rialto". As far as I know, in Italian it would be "Rialto non si tocca" o "non toccare Rialto". Maybe Buttler can complete (or correct) what I say.

Long and short of why my trip to Venice, and surrounding countries, was not a good time? My sister-in-law was a bitch. My brother neglected to tell me that she didn't want me with them. My sister was to go too, but at last minute couldn't, so I went. Tickets bought, hotels paid - what to do? Well, I was the third wheel and made to feel it. She didn't want me and my sister to go in the first place. I tried to stay out of their way. My brother did the best he could.
