OK, here is my review, HW: "Don’t You Want Me: Human League" - One of the great all time-classic fun pop duets. "Love Will Tear Us Apart: Joy Division" - Somewhat standard 80s fare; but the drummer is impressive! "Fade to Grey: Visage" - John Lennon meets Ultravox. Pretty good catchy chorus, "ah-ah we fade to grey." "Number One Song In Heaven: Sparks" - A little bit reminiscent of Prince, with the look and the style of music for the time. "Cars: Gary Numan" - Apparently Gary didn't get the message from the knack in June of 79 that rock and roll was back; but this was still a fun fall/winter song in 79. "Going Under Ground: Jam" - Sounds like Men Without Hats, with a little bit of a rockier edge. Doesn't do a lot for me, but not bad. "Come On Eileen: Dexy’s Midnight Runners" - Love the music, hate the words and the video. But hey, "Geno" is my fave Dexy's song anyways, that was introduced to from the "of the week", ha ha. "Kiss Me: Tin Tin" - A tad on the blah side for all its merits. "Tainted Love: Soft Cell" - The ultimate video-game sounding song, with a side of Motown. Always a good one! "West End Girls: Pet Shop Boys" - One of those songs with all the hooks and nostalgia fully intact. Lyrics abstract enough to keep it interesting. star rating: 4 out of 5 prime cuts: "Cars", "Don't You Want Me", "West End Girls" bottom line: Colorful music from artists who need to smile more, ha ha. Thanks HW! If you're marked down for another one this year, I'll send you a reminder! Jim

Can't fault the choices here at the '80's disco. Don’t You Want Me: Human League - Definitely hopping about waving both arms in the air to this one. Apparently it was only meant as an album filler too.... Love Will Tear Us Apart: Joy Division - meh, brings the mood down, actually quite ahead of their time if you consider the recent success of White Lies (or White Lies ripped them off, you choose) Fade to Grey: Visage - Yay, good old Newport boy Steve Strange, this song is such an icon of the New Romantic era and a fitting memorial to him. Also a ground-breaking video. Number One Song In Heaven: Sparks - Ah, I love Sparks to bits, again I remember this being a real departure from the norm at the time. Cars: Gary Numan - not one of his best but having seen interviews with him since this song makes a lot more sense. I think he's much underrated as an artist. Going Under Ground: Jam - ooh, we rockers hated The Jam! But actually *whispers* they were quite good. Come On Eileen: Dexy’s Midnight Runners - guaranteed floor-filler *whisks HW away across the dance floor* Kiss Me: Tin Tin - Hmm, can't say this does much for me Tainted Love: Soft Cell - Faultless. And again really represents the good things about music in this era. West End Girls: Pet Shop Boys - Not my favourite by them but not a bad debut single. Thanks for sharing Horacewimp
