Following on from a suggestion by skyclad1904 I have selected fifty songs that fit this criteria and for fun will run a poll to find out which is the best. I hope you favourite is among them. There will be seven rounds with the top two voted for going into the semi finals and then to the grand final. So lets find out the best song either produced or written by Jeff Lynne but performed by another artist, take your pick of the ones above, selected randomly by the office coffee mug, you are allowed to vote for two songs so don't waste your vote. Where possible I will include videos of the songs. Edit: The George Harrison song should read "When We Was Fab"

Wow, I'll have to learn a lot in order to be able to vote in this. The songs Jeff produced for others never called my attention for the fact of being produced by Jeff, as songwriting is what I'm interested in, but some of these guys are great songwriters in their own right so time to give them a listen.

Thanks for the video’s Horacewimp. Familiar with just two, Fab and Slipping. Did give all a listen. A few 50’s inspired, Rayes’s song a bit of punk to it. In the end, I voted for those two songs.

Oh my gosh this poll is so unfair! I love them all so much!!!
I'm going to have to take a lie down to consider my vote...

So glad I can vote for two, it has made choosing much easier.
I'm going to vote on the basis not of how much I love a song or a performer but on how "Jeff" I feel the sound of the song is and how "Jeff" the sound of the song make me feel.
I'm going to vote for Roy Orbison and Juliana Raye.
Juliana because it's a song that makes me feel so happy and good. When I'm listening to it I feel the same as when I'm listening to my favourite ELO.
Roy because it's soaked from beginning to end in Jeff Lynne. I didn't know until fairly recently that Jeff had produced it. Of course I knew he'd worked with Roy lots but because that track was a stand alone single I didn't know it was one of his. I'd heard it on the radio many times but the first time I heard it after "discovering" Mr Lynne it was a revelation...the production was so unmistakably Jeff. There's probably more Jeff in it than Roy!

2 hours between your first message and your second one, QOTH. Wow, you took your lie down and consideration of your vote seriously!

Gotta stick with my Beatles loyalty and vote for When We Was Fab but will vote for Roy too because well Jeff producing for his musical idol, automatically good right?

Just to explain my votes: I had to vote for "slipping away", as secret messages is my alltime fave album and this song was written during that period and has that albums sound all over it! This song would have easily fit on secret messages. "walk away" is a special song for me, it's the only one written by Jeff, Del Shannon and Tom Petty and has many of the famous Jeff trademarks and fantastic vocals.

Did not know about the collaboration between all on Walk Away, skyclad1904, thanks.
