Horacewimp: I hope forum members up north and near Sheffield aren’t affected by the heavy rain and flooding, stay safe.

Timeblue: My garden was like a swamp! Parts of it under a few inches of water and since we have clay in the soil the water doesn't drain too easily in these situations.

Timeblue: I was in Sheffield only 5 days ago for the OMD show and had to drive by Meadowhall so I'm glad that was last week...

eloneen: Stay safe, forum friends! ::animated-smileys-hug-008::

BIuebird: I hope everyone stayed safe and dry! We saw our first snow flurries of the season over the weekend... I am not prepared.

eloneen: BIuebird We've been transitioning slowly into fall in these parts. I think we're going to get a big first taste of winter this week, too, with temps below freezing several mornings this week.
Nov 12, 2019 2:01:53 GMT
BIuebird: Brrr, too cold for my liking! Our lows will be in the 20s this week, highs just above freezing. Sounds like we'll be facing similar weather.

elophile: we went from 70 degrees yesterday to 32 degrees tonight...brrrr!
Nov 13, 2019 1:27:34 GMT
BIuebird: Yes, that was so weird! It started yesterday in the 30s, then it got up into the high 60s, and now it's literally freezing. ::m1809::

eloneen: We had a mini sleet storm in the afternoon. The high for the day was in the 50s in the morning and it's been dropping ever since. It will be in the low 20s tomorrow, barely getting above freezing all day. Yikes!! Stay warm everyone!

unomusette: Calling BIuebird for advice - an adolescent seagull has settled down outside my kitchen door as if he's sitting on a nest, seems comfortable enough but doesn't want to move. Should we just leave him alone? He has proper feathers but brownish not white
Nov 16, 2019 21:22:21 GMT
BIuebird: He's probably fine unomusette, as long as he doesn't seem hurt. It sounds like he's a fledgling, if he's fully feathered, so there's probably a parent nearby.
Nov 16, 2019 23:01:46 GMT
BIuebird: How is your birdie buddy today, unomusette? Has he moved at all?
Nov 17, 2019 15:25:22 GMT
unomusette: Hi BIuebird, thanks for the advice He changed places a bit & was still there at about 11.30pm, but this morning when I got up he was gone, no sign of a fight. Saw a local cat eyeing him but not daring to approach, that beak looked pretty sharp!
Nov 17, 2019 19:32:24 GMT
BIuebird: I'm glad he was okay, unomusette! He was out pretty late, birds typically roost before dark.
Nov 17, 2019 20:24:40 GMT
unomusette: I thought it was late in the year for a fledgeling to be learning to fly, but seagulls are pretty tough so maybe they breed all year round?
Nov 17, 2019 20:57:52 GMT
BIuebird: I was actually thinking the same thing. Hmm, could be. Do the gulls there usually migrate?
Nov 17, 2019 21:11:25 GMT
unomusette: I don't think so, they always seem to be around. I think they live on discarded takeaways and suchlike rather than fish so they don't really need to migrate as that kind of food is available all year
Nov 17, 2019 21:40:15 GMT
BIuebird: Okay, then that could be why you saw a fledgling this late in the season. Most of our migratory birds have already left for the season.
